About
This child- and family-friendly all-inclusive hotel occupies extensive grounds in beautiful Upper Styria. Located in the heart of the Mürzer Oberland Nature Reserve, Kinderhotel Appelhof is about 75 miles from both Vienna and Graz. This renovated former farmhouse features spacious “fairy tale apartments” with separate bedrooms for parents (with four-poster bed) and children (with motifs from fairy tales). At the Appelhof all meals and drinks are included in the price. Rich buffets are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Baby food is also available. The “Märchenburg” (fairy tale castle) is a 10,000 ft² indoor playground on 2 levels. The outdoor playground is an amazing 20 acres in size, which is bigger than 12 soccer fields. There you will find a pony ranch, a petting zoo (goats, bunnies, small cows, llamas, owls), a trampoline facility, a pirate ship, a big sandbox, a bouncing castle, go-carts, electric cars, a climbing wall, and much more. The children's club provides professional child and baby daycare every day between 9 am and 7 pm. A varied entertainment program (children's club , game evenings, crafts, etc.) is also offered. Many activities are offered for children and adults alike, including river crossings, rappelling, climbing, bouldering, campfires with barbecue, building an igloo in winter, hikes, etc. Bicycles are also available (free of charge for children, at a small fee for adults). In winter an easy ski slope and a mini ski school are available. Ski equipment for children is included in the price. There is also a ski rental (also for cross-country skis and skates). Sleds can be rented free of charge. Baby monitors, strollers, back carriers, bottle warmers, baby bathtubs etc. are available for the youngest guests. After an eventful day you can relax in the pool area, featuring a baby pool, an indoor and an outdoor pool, or in Kinderhotel Appelhof's spa area.

Pros +
- Plenty of activities - hiking, excellent ski courses with really good tutors, huge indoor play ground, really nice rooms for families with 3+ kids. True all inclusive including alcohol drinks like beer and (not that bad) wine. Great breakfast, plenty of fruits and vegetables, good quality. Very family friendly rooms and facilities.
- We liked that hotel offered plenty of activities for kids: pool, kids club, animals, etc. Stuff was amazing and we definitely recommend it. They even offer you a free wine bootle that you can choose and take it with you in the room.
- This hotel is a gem if you travel with kids. Great facilities, lots of things to do with kids - playgrounds, animations, swimming pool - all of it nested inside beautiful nature. Every staff member was extra friendly. I would 100% recommend to anyone
Cons -
- The location is not that high in the mountains (~ 400 m above the see) and unfortunately there is not that much of snow even in the cold months like December and January. All inclusive is not very diverse. Swimming pool area was very slippy and I witnessed several people fall luckily without any serious injuries.
- Nothing that I can remember
- The indoor pool felt a little unsafe with no life guard and lots of excess water around the pool which our kids kept slipping on. If we weren’t travelling with a German speaker we would have struggled a lot as there was nothing in English.

It was in beautiful surroundings and had fantastic facilities for kids. They were never bored and in such good moods the whole holiday, being outside in the fresh air and entertained.

Well, the kids activities were excellent, and so was the fact that everything from the height of sinks to the buffet was designed for small children. My little one definitely had a good time.
Some staff members were great, but too many were rather unprofessional - not just unhappy to speak English (after me trying in German), but just behaving unprofessionally in general. In the kid's club, they didn't sign in and out (just one time during the whole week), not really paying attention who the kids are leaving with. One of the staff members older daughter (around 8 or 9) brought makeup and a phone to the kids playroom. One staff member walked into the swimming pool area without changing, standing right by the edge of the pool in muddy boots! (There is an animal farm so this is extra disgusting). And those just some examples. Would definitely not visit again, despite the great facilities.
I have two young kids, the hotel has everything to keep them entertained and the food is pretty good.
We liked everything except that it was a little far for us
Amazing hotel. Beautiful location. Food delicious and good selection of drinks on tap available 7am-midnight. Loads for the kids to do (huge indoor / outdoor play areas, petting zoo, pony riding/grooming, adventure activities, crafts, varing evening activity such as disco /fire pit). Pool and spa are great. The whole place is designed with kids in mind but is a luxury experience for parents as well. Staff work really hard. Lots of amazing memories made. We'd love to go back.
Booking.com showed images of a bunk bed in the room, but we didn't get this so children were sad. Also no shower (well you can if you sit down in the bath), but huge bath and could shower down by the pool after a swim. Would also be nice to have drinks in the room.Should be obvious as it's Austria, but do note you need to speak a level of German, though most staff happy to translate to English for you if ask.Kids club says only for up to 7 year olds (though they did let my 8 year old stay, and older children could probably be allowed to "roam free" in the site however as car free).
this is our second time in this hotel, and we didn’t want to leave it. The Location, food, games and activities for kids are great.
Location is amazing, the view around the hotel and view form the room was very nice. Children had hourly interactions and they were busy full day, there is possible to get the bicycles as well as for children as well as for parents. The food is amazing, drinks are available all day, I'd say that the food is available almost full day, everyone could find the food he likes. For small children there are available special food. There is also chocolate fountain with the fruits available. There is a pool for children and parents, and close to it a very nice SPA zone, with the hydro-massage and different types of saunas. There is a possibility to order massage or some body/face treatment, but should be ordered in advance.
SPA zone didn't work, the safe didn't work in the room, it has been locked and we waited several hours for the technician to come and fix both cases. Waiting time was quite long due to the Sunday and just one technician available there.
