Hotel & Restaurant Grüner Baum Merzhausen

Check-in is relatively easy, parking is on the street but right in front of the hotel, the beds are comfortable, and the room is quiet.

The breakfast wasn’t very good, and the staff didn’t seem very friendly.

Perfect location for my visit, lovely breakfast and the staff was so nice that they prepared my room for an early check in when I called to request. My single room was very small but very comfortable. I would stay again.

I traveled light, but note that single rooms are on an upper floor so you have to carry suitcases up stairs.

The hospitality was amazing and the hotel staff tried making our stay more comfortable. Even though there is no policy or service available for keeping the luggage after check out, but they did not hesitant to provide this help too. Moreover on the day of easter we were given a Lindt Rabbit as a sweet gesture!! Amazing service and hospitality.

We got a room in Attic and the upper floors were not accessible by elevator and this information was not provided while booking. The beds were super unconfortable and the location was bit off with very less frequent public transportation. The rating of 7 only was for staff and their warm hospitality.

A very pleasant small hotel in a traditional German style in a quiet neighbourhood of Freiburg. The old town is reachable in 15 mins by bus. The staff is very kind and welcoming, the breakfast is hearty and tasty. The room is quite small but has all the necessary facilities. Last but not least, a very reasonable price. Definitely recommended.

The check-in process could be quite challenging (please read the instruction sent by hotel on the check-in day carefully and everything will go smoothly). Apart from that, the bed could be too short for taller persons.

Clean room, clean bathroom, good breakfast, considering the price and quality its 10:10.

Only bad thing its the location, no transport goes there so you need to go by foot 1km.

Unfortunately the WiFi didn’t work well at all. I couldn’t get it in the room or breakfast area. Tea and coffee is located in the corridor on level one so not the easiest when you are on level 2. Parking is only on the street with a few spots.

We were in transit and we enjoyed stay in this place. It offered convenient location, nice area with free parking. We got good breakfast - all what was needed to rest before continuing holiday trip.

Lack of air-conditioning

The hotel is dog-friendly (12 euro), the room is simple but complete, clean and has a separate bathroom with a good shower. It suited well for one night. The breakfast was plain but good, understandable because it is a small hotel.The staff was very helpful and advised a great restaurant at walking distance.

The bed is very soft.

We arrived at a 'closed' hotel with no personell what so ever in sight. Only a mail that we had to get our key through a outdoor safe. No welcome, everything dark. And it seemed that this is more the rule than exception. They should mention it during booking, not afterwards! If one pays e.g. € 75,00 for a room, then I would understand it; but we paid no less then any other good hotel which respects its guests.Furthermore we booked (and paid) for two adults and one child (5y) but got only one double bed. Matras was terrible.No thank you.

Such a lovely place, room was so nice and comfortable, really enjoyed our stay.

Unfortunately there was no staff on site to explain anything nor was there any information in the room so we missed our breakfast and had to go out. Only when we came back there was another guest who asked why we never ate, we said because we had no idea where to go or times. A man said there's a note on this door which was so tiny and in German?, which we don't speak!.

Nice rooms, clean.

No personnel at the hotel. Breakfast was not super, Bread tasted like it was already a day old. We wanted to ask something to the owner. But there was no reply via all the ways we tried. It says they have a parking, But there is none. They suggest to park at a public place 2 streets further.

Location was good, a very good restaurant , very good staff, nice breakfast.

Nothing we didn't like. But like a lot of hotels in Europe, they don't have disabled specific rooms, which has a leg amputee I now take my own shiwer stool.

We've stayed at Grüner Baum for 3 nights during our trip to Schwarzwald. It is located a little bit outside of city center, in a peaceful quite green zone, and with a beautiful view to hills/forest (at least from our window :) ).The room we had was big enough for 2 adults and a dog; the bed was very big and comfortable. NB: no fridge in the room, but it's OK. There is no AC (as in all places of Black Forest zone we've stayed in), but there's a fan, so you wouldn't die from the heat :) Anyway, the nights are pretty fresh there, as it's windy and the temperature gets around 18-20, so you won't need the AC.The breakfast is good, you have some varieties of cold cuts, cheese, fruits and veggies, juice, bread... and the most important thing - you got a really good coffee / cappuccino!!! The staff is super friendly and helpful!
