Pros +
- Everything about this stay felt exceptional. The château is beautifully set away from the hustle and bustle, offering a sense of calm, space, and timeless elegance. The property itself is stunning, surrounded by vineyards, and steeped in the history of winemaking. Our room was spacious and tastefully designed, and the bed was incredibly comfortable—we slept like babies. The wine tasting included in the stay was an unforgettable experience: insightful, generous, and deeply connected to the land and its traditions. We learned so much about viticulture and the cultivation of the vine, which added real depth to our visit. Breakfast was delightful—simple, refined, and enjoyed in such a beautiful setting that it felt like stepping into a fairytale from another era.Dinner at the restaurant was impeccable. The cuisine was refined and thoughtful, with flavors beautifully layered and harmonized. The presentation, quality, and balance of the dishes reflected a true respect for gastronomy. Above all, what truly sets this place apart is the people: you genuinely feel that the staff care deeply about your comfort and experience. Their attention is sincere, warm, and effortless.
- Excellent breakfast. Reception on arrival was also very good. We arrived early so were given the opportunity to relax in the spa area until our room was ready. We were travelling to France from Australia so the location, only a short drive from Bordeaux airport and Bordeaux was perfect to relax and recover from jet lag.
- Charming setting in a beautiful forest area near Bordeaux. Lots of trails, and amenities, with wine, tasting tour and spa packages. Service was excellent. Breakfast and dinner options are available in beautiful settings.
Cons -
- There was nothing we didn’t like—everything met or exceeded our expectations.
- A basic map of the walking trails in the grounds of Chateau Leognan would have been nice to have but not essential
- The breakfast left a lot to be desired. It was good but would prefer more options-there wasn’t even baguette at the buffet! The rooms were a bit noisy. We had to leave around 9am in the morning but I wanted to buy a bottle of the delicious wine I had tasted at dinner. I was told the shop did not open until ten and that was that. Other five star properties would have opened the shop.

The location was great. The rooms were clean towels nice. There was a gym with a decent amount of equipment which was really important to me. Nature is beautiful restaurant great.

Probably the best mattress and pillows I have slept in years. Kudos for sleep comfort! The slow pace relaxing atmosphere is a plus. Unfortunately us, and I heard other guests do not stay more than one night to fully enjoy the serenity of the place.
Soundproofing between floors and inside: I heard people walking in their room one floor above; I heard doors opening and closing on my floor as well. Soundproofing from outside is n/a as it is very quiet outside. I also would like to mention that for experience if check in ( we arrived a bit early, room was not yet ready but when it was ready, the lady who checked us in did not contact us by phone. One of us was suffering migraine at that day and it would have really make a difference when room was ready at 3:30 to let us in the room at that time. For the nightly rate of over 500 euros I expect better service than a cold shoulder at check in.
Very beautiful chateau restored to perfection, the whole property is excellently decorated clean and well looked after. The staff were super helpful especially the concierge !Free wine tasting included in our stay was a lovely touch. Very quiet area, nice walks around the grounds and vineyard our 2 cockers loved it too! Breakfast was superb too waiter service was excellent. The onsite restaurant was top top drawer the food was fantastic highly recommended we ate there both nights! Would love to go back there soon!!
Words cannot describe what a fantastic experience we had and the hospitality that was shown to us! Beautiful property, tranquil and five star accommodations! The wine and the restaurant are exceptional as well! We would highly recommend a visit to the Château!
The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough to help us. The room was lovely and bed extremely comfortable. The wine tasting was great and our dog thoroughly enjoyed the freedom to roam. Breakfast was great (possibly best pancakes I’ve had)
The only thing slightly irked us was paying considerably more for the wine in the restaurant than what we can buy from the shop 100 yards away. Other vineyards we stayed at (admittedly in other European countries) charged the same whether you drink the wine in the restaurant or bought to take home. It is absolutely normal for non residents but there should be some perk to staying at the chateau with regard to dining in the restaurant.
Perfect place to spend calm weekend. Good service, tasty food, interesting wines. Strong recommendation!
Stunning property in open countryside. Good wine tasting experience. Comfortable room. Dog friendly. Fabulous shower (but bathroom needs a door!) Excellent restaurant.
Not being able to move our vehicle to the building we were staying in. All luggage needed to be taken out of car and moved by golf buggy. We didn’t need it all but car was so far from room we couldn’t take the chance of leaving it insecure.
Stunning chateau beautiful rooms fabulous food and wine . Above all the wonderful staff who were so helpful and kind
Peaceful environment and a beautifully restored chateau.Choice and quality of breakfast was incredible.Helpful staff.
Size of the room was great, but the sloping roof severly limitted how much of it we could use. It also meant that we couldn't get decent views of the beautiful forest around us.
It is a tranquil location with a fantastic park to walk in The chateau is beautiful and the visit is much appreciated The staff is friendly and here for your service
The room was a little bit smaller than expected and not in the central part of the castle
Wonderful location quiet beautiful atmosphere . Restaurant on the property was great for dinner with a marvelous wine selection . Btw the spa is a must surrounded by a forest quiet and peaceful .
I would say we didn’t get the wine tasting or private tour of the property. We needed to prebook because of tours .
Wow where to start - Room #2 was the prettiest hotel room I have ever seen in decades of travel - the attention to detail in every part of the interior design and decor, the huge comfortable space, the luxurious bedlinen, the stunning shower room, the gardens and woodland right outside the door, the free wine tasting, the lovely breakfast - highly recommend a night here.
Nothing!
Gorgeous setting, lovely decor, idilic gardens, tranquil breakfast setting, enjoyable restaurant experience. We loved the wine tasting (very knowledgable). Spa experience was ok.
Bed was very small. Construction site where they are building a near restaurant - will be worth the visit when finished I'm sure. No pool.
Wonderful experience! A well maintained château with huge and beautiful territory, nice for a walk or a bike ride. We loved the wine and the restaurant. The personnel was very attentive.
Too short stay
Well done to the owners for restoring an old chateau. Especially the chapel. Nice and small, bikes to see around grounds. Newly decorated.
It’s not finished so might explain why it’s a bit odd. No bar in chateau. No where to relax outside ( just uncomfortable metal chairs). And restaurant was “unavailable “, and fully booked with a wedding group. As was bar. Not great when there is zero in the area. Staff should have been honest. Left a bad taste alas.
Fine breakfast No table for dinner as booked up by outside guests !,,,,Only water in the mini bar!!,No room service food !!We starved !A 5 star property should meet all requirements Not a truthful message regarding the restaurant fully booked, I was told it was due to a technical fault ……..See my messages from the hotel!
A can do attitude not a can’t do attitude
The location wonderful. It’s in the process of being renovated. The gardens are beginning to look amazing. Fabulous design.
The room was poorly decorated. Small, dark, striped and horrible scent on bed linen. The breakfast was slow and badly organised. We had to insist we wanted to sit outside to enjoy the sun on a beautiful veranda rather than listen to piped music indoors. Abysmal service.
