- Our three day stay in Houlgate was ruined by the distress it caused us.
- Nice little two-star hotel, directly on the beach and perfect starting point to visit the reviera.
Cons -
- Extremely noisy since rooms face not only the sea but also busy with traffic main street. Very small rooms and bathrooms.Antiquated huge room keys.Very bad cleaning.Limited hours when there's somebody on site. Grossly overpriced for what you get.Meager and also overpriced breakfast.
- We had been to this hotel ten years before under previous ownership and found it quite acceptable. This year we had booked a triple room with a bath and sea view. When we arrived we were shown to a very small room with a small double bed and no sea view.I had printed out the booking ,which I showed the receptionist. She went downstairs to look and came back to apologise and say that it was their fault. I said I wanted our money back as we had paid in advance. She then went and phoned the proprietor. He said he wouldn’t refund the money but we could have breakfast free. I said we didn’t want breakfast and couldn’t sleep in the room we had been given as the bed was much too small. My husband insisted on seeing the proprietor but he wasn’t in so we had to wait until the next morning. The receptionist was very helpful and with a colleague separated the bed into twin beds and also gave us a fan to cool the air as the room was like an oven. The next morning when I saw the proprietor, he was defensively aggressive and asked why couldn’t we sympathise with his problem, seeming to forget that he had double booked the best room in the hotel. He also said , angrily, what did we expect as this was a two star hotel and if we wanted five star we could pay 500 euros a night. He had not even offered to refund the difference between the two rooms. This is fraudulent and I would advise people not to go there.
- Little natural light in our room and a bit too hot over night.

Little natural light in our room and a bit too hot over night.
Friendly, cheery reception keen to help in every way. Excellent location beside beach promenade and lively pedestrian street.
The location and the concierge’s were excellent. However, the room was tiny and loud, and the bed was extremely uncomfortable. The floors were not clean and I know this because I stepped on a piece of broken glass. Breakfast was exceptionally good.
Loud, stuffy, AC did not appear to work, or we couldn’t figure it out, I didn’t like stepping on glass, and the bed was uncomfortable. The closet was unusable because it was so musty.
Welcome was warm; room was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Very convenient location for our purpose. Only member of staff we saw was very helpful and kind. Breakfast good value.
proximity to sea and local shops lovely big window overlooking the sea
Enjoyed continental breakfast , location was perfect nice restaurant very close by which was dog friendly and very welcoming
No milk in room and no staff around as late arrival , so no refreshing cup of tea
Passable
Noisy with windows open, which was essential as it was too hot otherwise
very nice owner, helpful and friendly. pleasant room in old hotel close to beach and town centre. Parking free and close.would go again if passing. good continental breakfast,
bedroom floor having less sand.
Location, bread (breakfast), great staff. Parking
The occasional mosquito, no AC, one towel was slightly stained. All minor issues. Would stay there again.
very close to beach and car park.
room did not have much storage space and it was very hot.
The hotels palcement is perfect, just a few minutes walk from the beach, restaurants , and main turistic points. the staff was lovely and helpful in guiding our weekend activities as well as providing discounts for the local spa
this might seem frivolouse, at the breakfast there weren't any plates, just the saucers for the coffee mug az well as large napins, which makes eating a bit unconfortable. the breakfast selection is good though.
The location and very clean. Renovated rooms. One of the few hotels offering 3 person bedrooms with on top a partial view of the beach. Great value for money.
Apperently due to Covid19 there are limited reception hours. Was announced well in time do not really an issue.
Liked it very much :)
Can add more variety in the breakfast buffet
