About

Set on Sälen’s Östfjället mountainside, this charming hotel is just 656 feet from Högfjället’s ski elevators and 10 minutes' walk from cross-country tracks. It offers regional cuisine, designer rooms and free Wi-Fi. Hotel Gammelgården's stylish rooms feature either Carl Larsson-inspired décor or Ralph Lauren lodge-style interiors. Cable TV and tea/coffee facilities are standard. The cozy, traditional restaurant is a welcoming spot after a day outdoors. The kitchen team uses local game, poultry and fish in its dishes. Staff can give insider tips on Sälen’s many bars and nightclubs. Popular summer activities in the area include golf, cycling and fishing. Gammelgården is 10 minutes' drive from Trollskogen Forest, Europe’s largest wood sculpture park.

    Pros +

    • Traditional Swedish hotel near the ski areas with a very cozy setting. Solid breakfast and friendly staff, a perfect place to experience the Swedish winter. Several ski slopes nearby. Friendly staff at reception and in breakfast area. Famous for afternoon waffles.
    • It was very cosy
    • The staff was amazing and gave us a breakfast bag when we told them that we had to leave before breakfast opened.

    Cons -

    • Not much to dislike at all, except that one day the room had not been made at all, which was odd. When busy it can get hard to get a parking spot.
    • Far from the ski area. Need car or to get the bus. But the bus time table is weird. I waited for almost 1 hour in the cold and no bus arrived. If you are travelling with kids I don’t recommend this hotel.
    • Unfortunately, I saw a gray silverfish in my room which made me very uncomfortable.

Lovely old hotel which although out of season was fully operational with great management and menu options Quite difficult to find fully open hotels in Northern Sweden in May so this was brilliant

This as always is a lovely place to stay, restaurant is good to have on site. Staff have always been very Friendly and helpful. Breakfast is plentiful

Food is warm not hot, drinks a little expensive, the prices are the same as if it is peak skiing season, which as a skier I would accept, but off season perhaps some more cost effective wines, maybe even a house red and white.

    Very good

The hotel was very good, but was let down by the check-in experience.Arriving in the evening all the staff were busy with the restaurant guests.I could not get attention at reception desk even though I rang the bell several times. Later I saw another guest trying to check-in with the same problem. This was the 2nd time I have stayed at the hotel, and had the same problem during my previous stay.

Location is good. Food and breakfast was great.

Too little staff to take care off clients

Hotel does have its own story. Very traditional Swedish main building, perfect to have a drink near fireplace after day of activities.

Food was clearly overrated. Breakfast was also very limited, basically no warm food. You could make a sandwich, and there where few cookies. Nothing to choose from. Sauna was very basic too, not very clean btw. I think it’s perfect if you are local and you have some kind of nostalgia for old times or just want to touch those old times a bit.

Location was key.Breakfast and food were great. The beds and hospitality were nice.

The price setting. The room could use some maintenance, and update.

The lounge area before the restaurant was really nice to sit there. Lovely fire burning.electric charge station for the car. excellent food.

it was a bit too cold for me in the bedroom. however, it was really cold while we were there.
