Pros +
- Amazing, spacious, well appointed 15th century lodging. Like a dream. Spectacular view of the sea from our balcony. Wonderful breakfast room, food and service. Maria Teresa welcomed us graciously. She arranged transportation for us to and from the train in a town 10 miles away, as we as for our visit to a nearby town where my mother was born. She, and the driver she arranged, Luigi, made our stay memorable.
- An amazing place it was like staying in an old castle with the thick stone walls. The room and bathroom were very large.Views from our bedroom were stunning looking out to sea.It was quiet surprisingly (often you hear other guests in old places ) and very peaceful.Bed was very comfortable and plenty of hot water in good shower.Breakfast catered also for us non sweet eaters with fruit, great juices, eggs, yoghurt and brown bread. You were able to come up to kitchen during day to make tea and coffee.Great selection of books, mostly Italian though.Parking was not too far and wasn't busy.
- The location is amazing. The sea view from the terrace is the Best. Nice place for relaxation. The most important thing is Maria Teresa, she is very helpful and available every time. She made our stay amazing.
Cons -
- Not having a kettle in room for tea but walking up to kitchen wasn't a big deal.We had an old mini bar fridge in our room and I didn't realise it was just a feature and put food in that we were travelling with.......I could have used large kitchen fridge if I'd realised.Finding the place was tricky but we just stopped and asked a local who looked after us very well.
- I can’t think of anything negative to say about our experience at Residenza d’Epoca
- Was a bit hard to find, but Maria Theresa was there to help. If you have trouble walking up steps or carrying your luggage, may be difficult for you.

Everything about this stay was perfect - we can't recommend it enough. Maria Teresa was so welcoming. Our room and the hotel was out of this world in an old but beautifully refurbished property. Our bed was huge and so comfortable. We ate at Maria Teresa's restaurant and it was the best food we've ever eaten in Italy - all Calabrian specialities. Breakfast was superb with a really good selection of local juices, jams and panettone. The village of Fiumefreddo is stunning with views out over the Tyrinnean sea and winding atmospheric streets to explore. So highly recommended and do stay more than one night!
Breakfast was one of the best we’ve had in southern Italy the hostess, Maria Teresa went out of her way to accommodate us and made us feel super welcomed.
I can’t think of anything negative to say about our experience at Residenza d’Epoca
Great town, perfect place to go for a couple of days. Very pleasant and nice staff, great breakfast and amazing rooms. We took the train and the residens offered a convenient shuttle service.
Fantastic staff. Maria Theresa is one of the most hard working person I've seen. The accomadation was interesting. Full of history. The village is gorgeous in the old rural Italian way
Was a bit hard to find, but Maria Theresa was there to help. If you have trouble walking up steps or carrying your luggage, may be difficult for you.
Our host was fantastic. Super breakfast and lots of space in a beautiful old palazzo. Easy access to a choice of restaurants.
The shower mat was a little frayed
The location is really special. The Residenza is located in the middle of the old town. The views are amazing. Maria - Theresa is a wonderful host. Very hospitable and always ready to help.
Marie the manager is the most helpful person I have met for many a year. Nothing was too much for her from the moment I arrived to the day I left she was always very attentive
The shower could do with a little bit of maintenance work although I did not mention it to Marie as it slipped my mind
The residence was charming and perfect for our short stay. The location is great and has fantastic views out to sea. Maria was extremely welcoming and helpful - we look forward to returning again very soon.
Exceptional unique historic building in stunning village, beautiful rooms with many facilities, exceptional host who goes out of her way to make it an experiemce, comfortable bed. Exceptional breakfast with local fresh products and fruit.
bathroom facilities in an ancient building are understandably diificult to make top notch, but are still very good.
The hotel is really relaxing but the best is the village itself. This little village was meant to be just a stop On our roadtrip but turned out to be a highlight. The tiny town is full with excellent restaurant. You have a perfect view over the coast and it is chill.
All great. We got an apartment as the hotel itself was full. We had plenty of space for our own.
Gorgeous historical building tastefully restored with amazing original features throughout. The room had views of the sea, and the shared roof terrace has an almost 360 view of the mountains and sea. Stunning location in tiny but enchanting town. Maria Teresa was a friendly, accommodating and helpful host.
This property feels like you are staying in a historic museum, there are so many interesting things to look at and explore. The property is large, and the rooftop terrace is spectacular. The host, Maria Theresa, is incredible - she was so helpful, kind and clearly very passionate about the Borgo and the palazzo.
Very special place. Affiliated restaurant is phenomenal, likewise the breakfast with all kinds of local and homemade delights. We will be back.
+ a historical building from the 15th century + the location in the middle of the old town + spacious room with flair and an amazing view of the see + a great restaurant that belong to the hotel
- a broken shower head
MARIA OUR HOST WAS ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC..she is tiny and friendly, went out of her way to accommodate any need from our side ...even assisted in carrying our heavy luggage .She is a jewel and runs the place fantastic.A huge salute to a super host Breakfast .Italian style was served by her and she gave a lot of attention to serve us with traditional cakes and bread ..Thanks a lot for your kindness. The place is a heritage site all over and the care to the buildings is fenomenal..Super clean and tidy .
Carry the luggage is a bit difficult ..think the owners must pay attention to the parking and loading of luggage ..
Beautiful restored historic house in the center of the small village.Nice view of the sea from the room and the terrace.Very friendly staffVery good breakfast.Restaurant of the same owner is just a few minutes away.
Parking is a little tricky (as the entire village is situated on a hill), baggage has to be carried through quite steep and narrow lanes. But no problem, as the friendly staff was pleased to assist!
