Pros +
- Stunning rural location great interesting architecture.Lovely breakfast.
- The hotel is in an excellent location if your looking for peace, quiet and nature. The room was adequate, but no well put together. The food was good, and the staff tried their best to solve all the problems that kept appearing.
- great hotel location, good place for relaxation. all the staff and hosts were very polite and kind. hospitality is the first thing you will find out there.
Cons -
- This is not a 4 star hotel. I empathise with th fact that they are with problems contracting people, but that should not affect the guests. The air conditioning in each bedroom had to be turn on at the reception, which is a ridiculous policie for there's almost never no-one there. They did not offer any kind of room service. This is not a 4 star hotel experience at all. The room was not cleaned, because we did not said we wanted the room cleaned, although we left the paper outside the door, requesting for the room to be clean. My take on this is that they did not even bother to check, as it happens in an usual hotel. The internal line of the hotel did not work, so each time we needed to speak with the reception we had to go there physically. There wasn't, at any time, any possibility of getting anything from the kitchen, because they also did not offered this service. This would not be a major problem if the hotel was not so isolated. So, in balance, we have to choose between a calm and isolated place or a hotel that can provide basic stuff, as food.My suggestions, find the people they need to operate, clean and maintain the Hotel, then open it again to the public.
- spa was not working but the pool was so beautiful and water was fresh.
- - Bathroom with a translucent wall connected to the room- Central AC, you can't control the temperature and makes loud noise during the night, we didn't sleep well because of this (read reviews about it but booked the room anyway)

spa was not working but the pool was so beautiful and water was fresh.
- Great location in the middle of nowhere in nature (11 min by car from the nearest village)- Amazing pool and relax area (the way to the pool is rocky and difficult to access for people with difficulties)- Great breakfast - Close to Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo (we had dinner at Taverna da Matilde, one of the best restaurants we've ever been to, we had Naco de Vitela com cogumelos and Farinheiro a Brás)- WiFi indoors and outdoors - Room with a balcony and 2 chairs- Mini fridge in the room- Amazing place if you like silence and waking up in the middle of nature- We got a complementary wine bottle at checkout
- Bathroom with a translucent wall connected to the room- Central AC, you can't control the temperature and makes loud noise during the night, we didn't sleep well because of this (read reviews about it but booked the room anyway)
Silence. This is the place to heal, love, sleep, and enjoy nature. It is also a place to feel grateful for all that we have. The staff is friendly and kind, and the location—perfectly situated in the middle of nowhere—is ideal for disconnecting from all electronic devices. The room (we were actually offered Casa Arminda) is exceptional: a balcony with chairs overlooking the landscape, and a small but convenient kitchen with a microwave and fridge, which were perfect for preparing our daily salads. Guests can book dinner in advance, as there are no regular meals, because this is a romantic getaway, not a hotel. Breakfast is excellent: dairy products, local bread and hams, jams, and orange juice. Activities at the location include cycling, swimming (the pool is lovely, though the water flows continuously, making it cold but refreshing!), and massages (available for an additional fee). You can also exchange books in the library and take walks around the area (make sure to bring comfortable shoes and clothing). Additionally, you can learn the art of "doing nothing," simply enjoying the beauty of nature. Why not? Finally, you can drink a fresh lemonade and eat a juicy apple near the pool, every single day!
This place is synonymous with love for the land and passion for local heritage. The owners deserve praise for their investment in restoring an old village and creating such a beautiful getaway. Here is what we recommend to enhance the guest experience:(1) Mark/Indicate the depth of the pool (2) Improve the signage for the complimentary electric charging stations for guests, and include the information that we have free access to water for cleaning cars and bicycles after a ride.(3) Provide a list of nearby villages that guests can visit, highlighting main points of interest, such as Termas Fonte Santa (with access for 6 euros, including entry to the pool, towel, and robe) + Pinhel Museums +Termas Longroiva, and local festivities + Miradouro da Faia.(4) Establish partnerships with local artisans to showcase and sell their products, including (but not limited to) wine, honey, handicrafts, art, almonds, olives, and olive oil.(5) Create "getaway family/romantic experiences" for 1 or 2 nights, highlighting the best the place has to offer: silence paired with comfort
The setting, the nature, the architecture and the silence
-Friendly staff.-Beautiful nature surrounding the hotel.-Fresh, local breakfast ingredients. -Electric car charging facilities.-Nice wooden interior design elements. -Availability of bicycles. -Local welcome drink at reception.
-Better communication of pool opening times would have been appreciated.-The dinner main dish should have some vegetables served alongside it. There were a couple of typical thin Portuguese chips/fries that came with the beef but something else a little healthier could habe been nice. The Chicken Empanada had no side at all. -I think there's a protector sheet over the mattress that's making "plasticy" noise.
- Beautiful environment, location is great- Very calm, perfect to relax- The staff was amazing, very nice people
- SPA didn’t worked during our stay - Pool is very cold (3pm and doesn’t get any more sun)- Restaurant was only available 2/3 nights out of 7, and only for dinner. No options for lunch or snacks, since a coffee shop/restaurant is 11min+ away that affects your stay- Breakfast didn’t had much variety, no menu and limited options (still, very tasty)
Very peaceful and relaxing. Nice people, great food and wine from their vineyard. Authentic.
All good.
The location is amazing, at the veru end of a lush valley. The staff is really helpful, but speaks only very limited English. And the free chocolate cale is to die for.
Weak wifi in our room, workable but weak.
Nice quiet location, clean comfortable rooms, super helpful young lady at the reception, good breakfast.
WI-FI VERY slow…Toilet had a bad smell, possibly a drainage problem.A/C didn’t work well, couldn’t set up the desired temp.No elevator, so you’ll have to carry the luggage up/down the stairs to the lower level rooms.

Loved the location, the fact that it is an abandoned village that was beautifully recovered. The staff is extremely nice and they really go out of their way to make sure we are well catered for!
Not enough vegan options, but they were super open to getting some suggestions to improve :)
chic boutique farm in an abandoned village good for retreat and hikingwell equipped with good food and wines
a no heat issue was promptly solvedfairly isolated
Quietness and seclusion.
Lack of a booklet in the room with instructionsabout guest's rules, location and points of interest. Something to learn about the place, region, etc
Breakfast was basic good, fresh honey was nice. The Rafa's special dinner for our 50th wedding anniversary was really goodThe location of the hotel was remote but as expected very peacefull and quiet.
Location, architecture, staff
Mattress too soft, soundproofing between the rooms not good enough for you to avoid hearing your neighbors, lack of options in the restaurant menu
arquitetura, natureza, simpatia do staff
When we booked our stay, Colmeal seemed like a good choice for a few days of rest. When we arrived, we were surprised by the beauty and tranquility of the place, the hotel's excellent facilities and the team that made us feel special. We had several meals at the hotel and the food was excellent. “Silêncio” wine, produced at Colmeal, deserves a top score. Many thanks to Gabriela, Rui, Jaime, Rafael and all the other team members for making the 4 days we spent at Colmeal Countryside Hotel wonderful. We hope to return!
Nothing to say
Incredible location, simple yet confortable rooms and clean decor. Great food, wine and honey. Very nice staff. We didn't have the weather to try the pool but it seems great. It is a perfect place to rest and enjoy nature. We will be back for sure.
