- We stayed here 40-years ago for our Honeymoon, and came back for our 40th Anniversary. The Staff was mostly AWESOME, particularly Sophie and the Tall Dark Haired gal at reception when we checked in and Lucia. Our issue is mostly facility related, but there were some issues that were staff related.
- Dinner in front of the fire, in the castle environment, was unique and brilliant. Dog Spotty felt like the King of the Castle, with lots of smells from nature to experience. The chief-host is one of the sweetest persons we have ever met and knows everything about the area (being born there).
- restaurant & breakfast place and room stuning!, romantic and very specialideal for cupples that need a special weekend,
Cons -
- When we checked in, the room we were booked in (#16) had multiple issues. The toilet didn't work, the bedroom TV didn't work, and the shower only had cold water. The next day we were told the Maintenance Staff would be right up to fix it, and an hour and a half later I had to go down to see what was keeping them. They eventually showed up, but weren't able to fix any of it, even though they said it was fixed. The room they moved us to (#27) had only cold water in the shower and the Hot Tub water would only fill with scalding hot water, that we couldn't even get in because it was so hot. Raul (apparently the director or General Manager) personally came to our room and couldn't fix it either. Also, there are no directions on how to use the room phones to call the Front Desk. I went down to ask about that, and there was a guy sitting there that said he was new, and didn't know either. In the original room (#16) there is a very steep and narrow stairway (6-7 steps) to the bathroom from the bedroom. No handrail makes it very dangerous when negotiating it in the dark in the middle of the night if you have to use the toilet. And finally, the last morning we had scheduled two 90-minute massages for my wife and I, at 10:30 AM. We showed up at the front desk at 10:28 AM, and were told by Nico that we could have breakfast or a cup of coffee, as there was no hurry. That seemed odd, but we sat down in the dining room for 15 minutes and had coffee. Then all of a sudden Nico showed up saying that we had to get going because the 2 massage therapists had a tight schedule. Wow, that was exactly the opposite of what we were told when we arrived...ON TIME...for our massages! Then, after we had enjoyed just 40-minutes of our scheduled 90-minute massages, the two therapists said they were done, and had to get to their next appointment. UNREAL!!!
- A little too far from the A26 for convenience.
- Meals and drinks are quite expensive and with limited choice.

Beautiful location with a mix of faded grandeur and a real sense of history.
A little too far from the A26 for convenience.
We never stay in hotels with a rating below 8, and we stumbled upon this castle by chance, and it turned out to be one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in! For comparison, the previous night we spent at Les Sources de Caudalie 5*, which is three times more expensive, but it lacks the charm, hospitality, and history that this castle offers! I find it very strange to read negative reviews about this hotel. Yes, the floors creak in some places, but the castle is 500 years old! This only adds to the charm of the stay! The restaurant deserves a Michelin star or more. The staff is so wonderful. The breakfasts… they are amazing here! Pastries, all kinds of eggs, fresh juices, yogurts, cheeses, cold cuts, fruits, and the barista makes a very tasty cappuccino. The castle itself is incredibly beautiful. I would love to come back here again
Great location, staff, service and facilities.
Very nice place, excellent food even if they lost their Michelin star since I was there last.
Meals and drinks are quite expensive and with limited choice.
It is situated in a picturesque setting with wonderful countryside views and adjacent to castle ruins. Our diner was absolutely fabulous!
It’s a beautiful chateau that is in need of some fine tuning, slight updating of its interns amenities
Attractive exterior. Very interesting old chateau in gardens. Huge breakfast included.
Very much NOT a 5 star hotel. Tired. Dirty carpet. Unappealing entrance. Interior decor by 1970's Grenoble student on acid. Evening meal hugely overpriced (eg €37 for small fois gras). Young staff appeared to be wearing collar and tie for first time.
Location is amazing . Staff is friendly and amazing . Fere castle ruins are breathtaking.
ok
service restaurantwarm water douches
friendly staff, great food stunning location
The room I was allocated was a little strange
We were.last at Chateau de Fere 20 years ago and it was great to.be back. Very relaxed atmosphere whilst being professional at.the same time. Lovely terrace views and restaurant. We also used the pool which has been added since our last visit. There is also a spa which we didn't use. The ruins in the grounds are enchanting. Great to be back.
Nothing all good.
Dinner was deliciousSetting and ruins amazingStaff were very nice
Weird decoration in rooms and everywhereCold tap on our bath didn't workThe Spa rather grim and tired looking
Nice location, nice grounds.
Food was overpriced. 21 euros for a pasta a la arrabiatta. 12 euros for a fruit salad. We had an unfortunate problem that the lock in our door broke (can happen) we were offered a larger room but that room had very old and dirty carpetting. The bath had jets the inside of which were full of grime and the stop didn’t work, so no bath. We got offered another upgrade which led us to a room where there was construction still being done before finally being offered the most luxurious room in the hotel. We make our way to the bath (important for our one year old) and it, too, was unclean. We also ran out of hot water. All in all disappointing. However this is a response to an incident
Lovely hotel sadly we were put in a modern block outside the main gate not what I bookedd
Terrible room for 450euros modern blockNo wifiNo telephone to call receptionThe forgot my daughters birthday
Nice place and rooms (but the toilette did not work well)
1. We we offered to make trasfer to airport for 170€. Instead of this the hotel booked 2 taxi and we paid 305€. Nobody excused and reimbursed money. The agreement to make transfer for 170 is mentioned in our correspondence with hotel2. We are disappointed with food:( We like french food and were about to enjoy it as we had anniversary of wedding, but the food had no taste at all. 3. Young new staff, nobody knows nothing: many mistakes while we made our order in the restaurant. Thanks to young girl Nicole, she tried to help us.
Very helpful staff, we were looked after so well. There was a slight glitch with the room, but we were offered a choice of other rooms. Very beautiful and enchanting place. Outstanding, refined dinner, just beware that the restaurant is closed on some days. Check before you book. Would be a shame to miss out on a very special meal which was an important part of the whole experience of this place.
This is an amazing historic building next to an an incredible ruin. our meal on the terrace was delicious, the service from Robert was excellent and the view incredible .
unfortunately the plumbing on the top floor left a lot to be desired. the toilet didn’t flush properly. The shower water doesn’t have enough pressure. to shower The pool was closed .
Food exceptional , location is beautiful and peaceful
despite online saying pool, the pool was not available. The room had no hot water and the manager did not think this was a reason to discount the night fully or indeed other issues. We did get a slight discount but given the poor facilities for the pool and then nowhere to wash / shower the next day ....absolutely not what you expect . I said i would pay for the meal etc but bnot the room and this was not agreed.
