    Pros +

    • Authentic/ traditional hotel. Simple but comfortable. Great welcome and a friendly, homely atmosphere. Lovely village location. Excellent evening meal.
    • The location of the hotel in a small village outside of St Jean Pied de Port is lovely, so peaceful and relaxing, we had the best nights sleep for years, very comfy beds and exquisitely soft pillows. We slept with the doors open onto our balcony overlooking the river which was lovely to hear at night. We had planned on having lunch and dinner at the hotel as the terrace looked so lovely and way more peaceful than St Jean Pied de Port, which gets very full and busy with tourists and the restaurants close for food early. However, when we arrived at 1.50pm the hotel was locked and closed up no sign of life! We saw a lady gardening on the terrace and asked if we could check in and she was very abrupt and irritable and asked what the time was we said 2.00pm so she called her husband reluctantly to let us in. Fortunately he was a very friendly lovely man and showed us to our room and gave us keys to come and go. However, he informed us it was their day off so no food served all day. We went to the town but all the restaurants had stopped serving food. It would have been considerate if the hosts had emailed us to say there would be no food available as their website highlights the lovely regional cooking, so we were very disappointed. and ended up having cheese and ham in our room. Fortunately the little balcony overlooking the river was fantastic and I really recommend booking a room with a balcony.
    • Nothing. It would have been fine except the hotel services closed.

    Cons -

    • The lack of communication, not being informed they were closed for food that dayLovely location, but didn't get a very warm welcome
    • The owner had closed the hotel except for our room. It is named as a hotel & restaurant in the countryside but all lunch and dining facilities were closed!

Nice and small hotel in a quiet village, very close to Saint Jean Pied de Port but with many other places to visit around. People running the hotel were very nice, they speak Spanish in case is needed and I highly recommend having dinner there. The food was delicious. Will be back.
