About

Phi Hotel La Tonnara di Bonagia is set in an ancient Sicilian tuna fishery, dating back to the 17th century. Enjoy an unforgettable stay in a unique location. A rocky beach is just around the corner. This Hotel di Charme was brought back to its original, magical atmosphere by careful and expert restoration. The establishment covers the whole site of a traditional fishing village, looking out over the sea and immersed in gardens. The bedrooms at Tonnara Di Bonagia are furnished with valuable pieces, and decorated in the characteristic local style. Some of them have balconies with panoramic views over the Baia di Cofano. You can also choose junior suites, suites, and apartments. The restaurant Malfaraggio looks out over the picturesque little harbor and offers delicious dishes, prepared according to the original traditions of the Trapani area. For apartments, cleaning services are available upon request for a supplement of €25-€30 (depending on the unit chosen) and linen change for a supplement of €10.

    Pros +

    • The picturesque location, the fact that it is emplaced on a lovely rocky beach with a jetty that enables you to jump into the sea. Lovely spacious rooms and fabulous breakfast.
    • Valderice is beautiful and unique. The resort was converted from a government compound into a hotel. They did a good job. Dinner buffet made dining arrangement much more available and interesting. Our positive experience is much about doing nothing for pleasure.
    • The location is superb for a relaxing holiday. The garden and the pool is superb, is nice that you have access to the sea and you have a small little beach part as well (it's not a sand beach, it's a rock beach so take your snorkeling equipment with you). You have private parking, restaurant, bar at the beach and bar at the main entrance. The room where we stayed it was nice, big, with balcony, we had fridge and a small kitchen with accessories, Ac. I recommend to rend a car to visit around (for example: erice, trapani, and nearby beaches) because in Bonagia there aren't many things to do.

    Cons -

    • The employee at the desk upon checking in can be more welcoming. It could be the plume of guests at that particular moment.
    • The breakfast was the same every morning and not very varied. We stayed 9 days, and sometimes I did not went to eat breakfast because I had nothing left to choose from to eat. Take your own beach towels to the pool, because to take towels from them is expensive.
    • Was a bit disappointed in our room. The air conditioning did not work properly, and the room was uncomfortably hot. One night at 1 am we woke up to extremely loud firecrackers right outside of our room in the courtyard below. Scared us as it was extremely loud. The staff chalked it up to kids. I would think you would have better security and not allow anyone into the courtyard at that hour. Thought the price of the room was a bit expensive. They also need a better choice of food options.

We like the location and the fact that it was a tornado something different than a regular hotel and that you also had a good quality restaurant in House

In this specific day, we were looking for rest and relaxation. The beds were very hard and for some reason at 1:30 AM in the morning there were fireworks that lasted over five minutes that woke us up and we could not fall back to sleep so as far as I was concerned, it was a total loss when I explained that to your staff, they basically shrugged their shoulders and said it may have been kids. This isn’t the first time I’m staying at a hotel I know when somebody’s just ignoring me and that’s how I felt and I don’t think I’d ever come back. Also, your restaurant was very impressive. We had the Sicilian night. The assortment was fantastic. I am a true Sicilian and to be honest I think you guys could’ve done a better job. I think you’re catering to some foreigners. I’ll give you an example. The pastas were dry and not well sauced with condiments. It just wasn’t something that I would expect for Sicilian cuisine.

Everything - lovely resort we enjoyed the pool , the small private beach and the stunning views. Breakfast was lovely and staff were very accommodating in providing gluten free options for my daughter.

Beach / pool towels were offered for a fee per towel and were not complimentary. We were able to purchase towels at a nearby beach store which worked out well.

    Staff unfriendly!

Night club music until 1am every night in the courtyard. Staff forgot to include gluten free for our takeaway breakfast. Not enough hot water for a bath.

Beautiful location, rich cultural history in a picturesque setting. The food was delicious and the property is a wonderful place for families to enjoy.

They gave a private parking for guests and this was amazing! Also a nice swimming with a great view. They had many options for the breakfast, with breads, fruits, cereals, cakes, yogurts and hot food. I would say option to everyone.

The hotel doesnt look like a resort as they say. The room was very dated. Hotel was really noisy, no soundproofing from the walls at all and unfortunately the 3 nights we stayed there he had rooms close to us really noisy after 22h and before 7:30. It was really hard to rest on the hotel. Couldnt sleep. Also the shower had a slow pressure :(

Accommodation was cool and stylish, we liked the atmosphere of old fisherman´s village. Also we loved panoramatic pool with view on sea and mountains. Rooms clean and spacious and staff very kind.

The only thing that since we came off season village was almost empty and also hotel service (bar, pool bar etc) limited. It was our choice to came in mid-October, just something to consider. Also if you have car (as we did) places like Trapani or San Vito which are close are still living even in October.

    4ArtjomsPosted on: 10-13-2024

    Close to the sea.

The wi-fi was not working properly and the mobile internet was not working properly as well as there is no mobile zone available in the territory of the hotel. The room #25 was completely without wi-fi and there was no option to use mobile internet. It’s better to think about it. Not good user experience.

Lovely room, beautiful pool and great location. Good quality varied breakfast. The sea in front of the hotel is great.

It was a bit noisy, we had a few days of strong winds and the building was producing noises everywhere (especially a service staircase door creaking).

    8RonaldPosted on: 10-3-2024

The location is great, the view from the room was stunning.

There was no information about the facilities, and no map of the resort. Food in the restaurant (breakfast, dinner) was not too good quality.

Only thing we can say it was good was cleaning and staff. Half speaks English but always trying to help.

When we arrived, the room number 10 was given to us. on our first night, we couldn’t sleep because of the noise (water running) that came from the pipes when other people from other rooms used the bathroom. It’s a loud noise and it’s very uncomfortable. After this episode, we tried to switch rooms but the recepcionist told us that the hotel was full. We were here for 6 nights and we couldn’t rest enough because of this. This is not normal for a 4 star hotel resort. Since this was not enough, we could also hear everything about our neighbors in the closest rooms. No door has self close, so when anyone, at any given time went through the corridor it slammed the doors and awaken everyone. We rented a double bed room, and when we noticed it was actually 2 single beds joint together by the sheets. This means that in the middle of the night someone might fell to the middle of the bed, since there are 2 different beds and 2 different mattresses. Another point is the smell. This might not be strictly to the hotel, but none of the streets around and the whole island were dead fish smell free. Not the hotel. We even went looking and couldn’t figure out where did it came from. Finally, the food. It’s a 4-star hotel that 50% of the food was frozen/microwave/oven. There were 3/4 pastas available. Frozen french fries, frozen burgers, even the deserts were mostly pre-made elsewhere and tasteless.

TERRIBLE! Appalling quality and non existent customer service

Please don’t consider staying at this hotel. OVERPRICED, TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE, DATED AND WORN OUT ROOMS WITH UNUSABLE BATHROOMS.The room was extremely dated, worn out and old fashioned. The bathrooms were also extremely old and dirty and impossible to use with a young family, the shower cubicles were tiny and the shower head was fixed. It is grossly overpriced based on the low standards of the resort. It is rated at a 4 star resort, but I don’t believe it should even be rated as a 3 star. The room is already overpriced, but then they start introducing all the hidden extra costs, fees to use the hotel facilities (swimming pool etc.), fees for clean towels, fees to use the kitchen in the room… crazy and just not a transparent way of doing business. This leads me on to the attitude of the management… for certain there is a critical need for customer service training. The management were arrogant, obnoxious, rude and smug. She did not listen when we were talking and simply kept repeating herself and her point of view. She promised to call us back later in the day to help fix the situation, this was 5 days ago and we’re still waiting! Assume the call will never come so we have now initiated a complaint via booking - this is the first time we have ever needed to do this and my husband and I are both frequent travels for business and leisure, the fact this is the first time we have ever escalated to booking.com lets you understand just how bad this experience was. Please do yourself a favour and book another hotel!
