Pros +
- Beautiful building, stunning setting, great rooms. Dog friendly and friendly staff. Adequate breakfast
- old property which was charming.
- Excellent freshly prepared breakfast in authentic environment, beautiful old-fashioned style room with an idyllic view.
Cons -
- hotel was everything we wanted but no evening meals so relying on nearby restaurants is necessary. Town was very busy and crowded with locals so finding food wasn't easy - lesson - plan ahead!
- Casalarreina is a small pretty village, but there are very few places to eat on a Monday, when several of the bars are closed. Haro offers more choice, and is a 10 minute drive away.

Excellent freshly prepared breakfast in authentic environment, beautiful old-fashioned style room with an idyllic view.
An old building with lots of period charm. Room was spacious and comfortable. My room looked out onto the monastery. The ensuite jacuzzi was an unusual but pleasant surprise. Breakfast was plentiful and freshly prepared by the attentive host. The location was superb; less than 10 min drive from Haro, Casalarreina is a small town with an attractive central square and historic monastery. The municipal, outdoor swimming pool is a 3 minute walk away, and well worth a visit if you need to cool down.
Very traditional, Large airy room. Easy to park, just outside of the property. It is only 5 minutes from the junction of the main Bilbao to Zaragoza motorway.

The lacation, the light, the bathroom, the space.
Breakfast was adequate.
Though not the easiest place to get to it was possible to leave the car not far away. The reception was friendly and efficient and both reception area and bedroom had a lot of character. We were less enthusiastic about the bathroom for, though of a good size and impeccably clean, the only partly operative jacuzzi unit took up a disproportionate amount of space. A restaurant was proposed to us little more than five minutes' walk away and it proved excellent for an evening meal whilst even closer bars and cafes were also available. Breakfast at the hospederia was not memorable and, in terms of value for money, we felt that the overnight stay was only average but it is extremely well located within an interesting little town.
This is ridiculous- I have written three different times to tell you and the hotel why I canceled the night before( it is NOT on the Camino nor can bags be transported there)but I keep getting messages asking how my stay was - please settle this
I dis not stay there
Location. The building is awesome.
Air conditioning did not work in our room. Fortunately the old historic building is not too hot.
The building is stunning, full of character & in a beautiful location. The view & old stone ‘benches’ within the bedroom were stunning.
The bathroom looks dated & the bath tube didn’t work.In the morning we were woken up by a very noisy street sweeper machine at 7ish. It was going around for 20 min in the little square where the hotel is located. It is beyond their control but maybe they can have a word with them.
Ancient property in a courtyard, stunning location next to the monastery, which is worth touring too. The hotel rooms were excellent t with enormous and ornate bathrooms. Very comfortable and worth staying at this location..
Due to new building works in the area the access to the car parking was hard to find, but this a minor point
liked the history of the building, paintings on the walls, the quiet village location
there was a bad sewer smell in the bathroom. it was also quite cold in the breakfast room.
its nice to be in historic surroundings and in an interesting room. Staff were very helpful. we would never have found the spanish cafe on the edge of the village which would take dogs. Dogs of course were welcome but were also charged for. it was the correct thing to have breakfast which was good
the rooms had been constructed out of the ancient building I guess in the 70s. The bathroom had an ancient jacuzzi which contained the shower - difficult to get in and out of and I would imagine freezing in winter. there were two tiny windows at floor level which opened and two roof lights which appeared not to. no ventilation in bathrooms. The biggest problem was location. there were road works and physically driving to outside the building was a problem (resolved by phoning the hotel to get instructions) . this ought to be a short term problem. there is no bar in the building so not possible to meet the other guests. There is nothing of interest in the village. Trying to find something to eat on a holiday monday evening in the village proved impossible and we had to drive through two villages to find a tapas bar for some food. They dont allow you to leave unattended dogs in the room, nor take dogs to breakfast (which is fair enough), but the dog had to be tied outside while we had breakfast
it was a wonderful quirky beautiful building that housed a very interesting decor.
The bath was old and needed to be updated.
nice old building, garden
during the village festival (end of August) THE WHOLE NIGHT there was VERY LOUD MUSIC, it was impossible to sleep since it took place on the square right in front of the rooms
The decoration of an ancient castle throughout common areas as well the room. Efficient cooling (outside was 40 degrees). Large beautiful bathroom. Wonderful location by the park.
Our bubble bath didn't produce bubbles though we could hear the neighbors' did?.
Perfect location. Hotel with a lot of history. Beautiful view to the Monastery. Free parking on the street.
Bath tubs need remodeling.
Absolutely stunning interiors, beautifully renovated room in old style with an enormous bed, bathroom with jacuzzi. The way all the old parts were preserved but still made into a super comfortable hotel room was admirable. The little town is also charming with nice green areas and a nice Plaza and very close to Haro.
The hotel allows you to bring your dog but NOT to leave it in your room to go out and have dinner or breakfast unless you keep it in a cage! They suggested to leave it in the car(!) which in a warm country like Spain easily can become a death sentence for your dog.
Good breakfast, room rather uncomfortable .
The frontline staff by night was not serviceminded .
Autentic building. Super big and comfortable bed.
Poor breakfast.
