    Pros +

    • The property is big with a grand patio. Lots of different trees, grape vines and foliage which contributes to the lovely view. The staff is first rate… they were very attentive. The rooms are a decent size and each has a mini fridge. Great tubs in each room, too.
    • Wonderful stay in this magical monastery turned pousada. Friendly, helpful staff (thank you Manuel and Jacinta!) and stunning historical buildings. We loved breakfast and the pool area and the gardens.
    • The property was developed with the monastery in mind. It kept as much of the old as possible, while modernizing it for visitors. It had great wifi, ac, swimming pool, and grounds. The location was so peaceful it would be a perfect spot for a retreat. The wait staff was exceptional and the food was wonderful.. It was one of the highlights of our trip.

    Cons -

    • The included breakfast was decent. Scrambled eggs and bacon/tiny sausages were the only hot item choices. We had dinner at the property restaurant and it was decent, but not the variety to want to eat there again. This property is in a very small village. There are couple of bars and a restaurant across the street from the monastery. We didn’t have luck finding them open.
    • A few leaks in our bathroom but staff were helpful.
    • Nothing, it was perfect. From the old to the new - the staff and the hotel exceeded our expectations. If I could give it a 12, I would.

Location and the staff. The facility itself very historical and picturiss.

Just bad weather days that you can't control.

The former monastery is fantastic in terms of spacial experience and the mix between old structure and new details! The hotel really has a wow factor! The service is also very good! The breakfast is fantastic! We had a very nice stay!

The minus is the dinner. The prices are steep and the food unfortunately does not live up to the prices or the general standard of the hotel. The hotel should invest in a top chef to make the stay a 10/10. I should also mention that the windows leak when it rains heavily and the tennis court should either be removed or cleaned/fixed.

The Pousada is a historical building located in beautiful mountain area. It's ideal location for a retreat. The staff was very friendly. The food of hotel restaurant was very good.

Lovely dining room and great food. Interesting decor.

Wifi was weak. Needs new carpeting.

The place itself- the mosteiro is AMAZING! The rooms are ok , nothing special ! The breakfast is wonderful!

Our bathroom got flooded .Very unexpected for a hotel rated in this category.I just received an “apology “ - expecting for something else - a discount or anything to make up for such bad time .

The hotel is located in an old monastery, staff very friendly and helpful. Location is really beautiful but besides the hotel there is nothing around. Car is needed for getting around and going for hikes. Breakfast pretty decent but only instant coffee is served ( Nescafé )……..

The rooms and especially the bathroom needs some urgent renovation, all bit outdated which gives a flair “ old and moldy “

The staff was helpful. The restaurant was very good as was the wine list.

Loading and unloading luggage was not easy. Unload one place with lots of granite walkways ( bumpy) and park in another. It is in the mountains so this may be expected.

Great facilities (pool, patios, restaurants, rooms). Very good breakfast. Nice staff. Good value. Very chill place.

Mid-stay parking lot was taken away. 30-60 minute drive to nice hiking places, but good access to Braga (30 minutes). Cappuccino very strong (I liked it).

The atmosphere around the monastery was good, near Nature. Breakfast was good. Good kitchen and kind staff

Air conditioning was weak. The place is quite far away. A bit dusty, not feeling of luxury in the rooms

    The staff were very friendly.

Lack of accessibility for people with less mobility. Lots of stairs everywhere with no alternative

A building with lots of history but modern rooms - a very appealing combination! Wonderful outside terrace with splendid views and constant concerts from the frog pond. Utterly friendly staff, great breakfast and dinner.

Absolutely beautiful location and hotel. It was breathtaking and had a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. The food at the restaurant was delicious with lots of local culinary choices. Walking the grounds especially in the early morning and evening transported you to another time. Fabulous stay!

    Nothing - everything was fantastic.

    Everything was good

Apart from the staff, the whole experience was a mess.

The worst part was the room temperature. After calling the reception several times, I had to sleep in the hotest room ever. And couldn’t open up the windows, since the flies and mosquitoes would get in.Everything in the hotel seemed extremely old. I am not saying about the historical aspect of it. I mean everything else: the furniture was clearly outdated, carpet in the hall wasn’t clean, infiltration marks on several walls. This wasn’t near anything “luxurious” at all. As it was stated several times in the booking.com description. The worst part was when I tried to cancel the second day, and didn’t get any refund from the hotel / booking.com.Even though it took them 2 hours to provide that answer.Anyway, I decided to pay for the 2nd day, and left without getting any refund for it.Found a better hotel and managed to save the rest of the vacations.Never again going to do business with booking.com nor the pestana brand.

It is quite amazing to sleep, eat and relax inside a 12th century monastary. It is decorated and maintained in a very modest fashion, that brings the building to the foreground in a way that keeps reminding you of how monks once lived there.

It would have been nice if our dogs would have been welcome in the common/social rooms. The weather was bad, so we didn’t go on hikes as much as we planned but since dogs were only allowed in the rooms, we spent quite some time there. Which is a pity because there are some nice grand rooms with fireplaces or tv, where you can lounge.

The hotel was beautiful and the area was amazing

The rooms are not entirely soundproof and the breakfast tables were not completely cleaned between users. Ours still had crumbs from the previous family.
