    Pros +

    • It was very good! I would just recommend a little more variety.
    • Value was not there for the price considering other similar chateaux we stayed at in Normandy.
    • This is a fairytale venue. We stayed in the Persian room and I felt like a princess. Every detail has been attended to - beautiful linen on the beds, large bed room with sitting area, and the view into the garden was exceptional. We were running a little late to check in after a big day of driving - and we were greeted so beautifully and made to feel welcome and comfortable straight away. The garden is world class and I was very sad when I had to leave and tear my eyes away from the amazing views. If you enjoy beautiful gardens then this is a must stay location at all times of the year.

    Cons -

    • I think that offering an evening meal would be a great idea, or allowing us to reserve one in advance, as driving is a little tricky on the narrow roads at night. Also I think a no smoking policy in the hotel would be a good idea.
    • Not staffed or operated as a hotel. No assistance with luggage or reservations at restaurants for dinner. No TV, no mini bar.
    • The pictures do not provide a current situation of the rooms. My room was in dire need of a renovation. It's a beautiful property, but not well maintained.

Beautiful gardens and very quiet and peaceful- superb breakfast

A little unfriendly service by the waitress at breakfast as we couldn’t think of the French word for scrambled eggs - no restaurants close by and the staff sent us to one that was closed. Unusual experience.

Relaxing ++++. Beautiful grounds. Boys who looked after attentive but relaxed. Old world decor. Loved the pool. Really good value and there is lots to see within an hours driving.

Fantastic location, impressive garden, great breakfast, very nice atmosphere of an old chateau, very nice and authentic interior

It is advertised in bookung.com and other sources that they provide a charging facility for EVs. I asked upfront to get confirmation for the charging option w/o any answer and when we arrived they clearly said that I cannot charge my EV at the chateau. On top of that there wasn’t even the willingness to foffer a normal plug to use the charging adapter. Anyhow, as I still was at 40% battery it wasn’t an issue, except that I needed to find a charger on our trip the next day. However, it would have been a challenge, if I would have counted on their advertised charging option and arrived with low battery. This is actually in the midfle of nowhere and the next charging station is some miles away and only with 7kW capacity which would mean you spend hours somewhere remote just to get your EV charged. So either they are clear on the advertisement that they DON’T provide charging or get this setup ASAP. I had set my filters at booking.com accordingly and found this hotel, otherwise I wouldn’t, so I feel somehow tricked!!!

Marie France was a welcoming hostess and the property is stunning. We enjoyed a dip in the heated pool and explorinng the gardens, it was really calm and peaceful. Breakfast was beyond generous, all really fresh and delicious. The rooms are spacious and comfortable while still being honest to their history.

There truly was nothing that I did not like about Chateau de la Ballue - the staff was amazing, breakfast was fantastic, rooms extraordinary.

Nearby restaurants are few, but the staff has a great list and advised to book well in advance.

If you want to go back and experience 18th and early 19th century living, this is the place. It was charming, treated like a king. The gardens around the castle are exceptional, the staff was friendly and very attentive. The breakfast was excellent, their home made yogurt a delight. Room was above expectations with a very comfortable bed. Just want to point out, there's no TV in room, which in reality we did not need. It's a place for you to relax after a long day of sight seeing. Absolutely wonderful!

    Nothing at all

Memorable experience. The Chateau has a wow effect from the moment you approach the house. Beautiful, stunning, full of historyLoved walking in the gardens.Had a great tea and cake in the Cafe, enjoyed the breakfast. Thanks for everything

The property was stunning and the gardens were immaculate. We had a lovely time walking through them! The proprietors were also very gracious and welcoming. We felt truly relaxed during our whole stay.

Extraordinary hotel - absolutely wonderful. We stayed only 1 night but regret we did not have time to stay longer to savour the magic. The building, the decoration and furnishings, and the garden were all delightful. The breakfast was also superb.

The biggest drawback is the absence of a proximate restaurant. There is one in the village 4 km away, but after that you must drive 16 km to Combourg, which is well worth a visit anyway. Remember, people eat early in the countryside.

Our room overlooked the fabulous garden they have here. We spent time at the beginning of our stay and at the end of our stay exploring different parts of it. There was also a sumptious breakfast every morning. It was an absolutely enchanting stay.

Beautiful Chateau with lovely grounds. Rooms were huge, comfortable and nicely decorated

    10JamesPosted on: 8-20-2022

My fourth stay since 2015 and so obviously I love it. The history, the huge and gorgeous bedrooms, the lounges and the breakfast room. All feel like a family lives here. Breakfast is incredible! I also took advantage of the large heated pool and the jacuzzi. So incredibly relaxing.

Wow! The gates open and you enter a world of luxury and classic beauty. Beautiful gardens and the sounds of cooing or ring-neck doves. surround you. The decor in the bedrooms especially is spectacular, with textile panel walls and canopy beds. The staff's extra effort laundering on-site and ironing all the linens by hand makes them amazingly fresh --crisp and soft at the same time! Better than the 4 Seasons!Amazing property, lovely people, a not to be missed experience!

This was not a negative....We were dining with friends who lived close to the Chateau, but as it was the vacation time in France, and since many local restaurants were closed, it was difficult to get dinner, as they only serve breakfast at the Chateau. But the staff made sure that our kids were taken care of and helped them get pizza for dinner, warming it up in the kitchen. Above and beyond!
