    Pros +

    • We really liked this place, a lovely old building full of oak beams, beautiful surroundings, and very peaceful. Emmanuel and all the other staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and breakfast was good with one exception, a bowl full of cold hard boiled eggs, a black coating on the yokes which isn't a good sign. I wondered how long they'd been there, I didn't see anyone else try one. Every other place on this trip provided fresh eggs, boiled to order, surely an essential requirement in any non-basic hotel? Finally the cuisine, I'd say it was good, but not quite good enough to justify the cost. I was talking to the Chef on the morning of our last day, and he told me he'd be serving cabillaud avec sauce homard, cod with lobster sauce that evening. We both ordered this and it was a little disappointing, overcooked slightly dry cod in an uninspiring sauce, not something to complain about, but it should have been better, desserts on the other hand were excellent. We would love to come here again though, maybe we'd have better luck next time.
    • Very friendly owners who really made us feel welcome. It is a beautiful place, and once the owners have finished updating, it will be even more amazing. Food at restaurant was very good. The garden in the Summer time would be lovely.
    • we went for a picknick and asked for a Rosé wine. We got a very good wine (cooled down) and even wine glasses!

    Cons -

    • there is not much around. To go to the old town of Lamballe, you need the car. But this was obvious on our booking and no surprise.
    • The garden to relax in at the end of the day with a drink from the bar. Stare at the night sky.
    • The bedrooms need money spent on them - you can see the rooms are being worked on with cracked tiles on the bathroom floor replaced with non matching tiles and more tiles to fix. Cheap furniture and lights have been added with some large antiques added alongside. Not sure ‘Italian bathroom’ is the correct description when there was a cheap bamboo wrack for towels and no Italian tiles or products in sight - just cheap soap in a plastic wrapper (next to a sign about the environment). We booked a superior room and ended up in a standard room but paid the superior price. When we asked about the difference in price and difference in the rooms in case we booked again, there was no resolution offered and we were told booking.com take a large fee and we pay nothing to pay bills for the mansion and staff. It was a bit of a surprise. Having said that, I am sure the property is lovely to sit outside and have a glass of wine in the summer. The location is very quiet and with a few more bookings, they can reinvest the money into the rooms.

Beautiful setting by a lake just on the edge of town in open countryside it was a converted very old farm house 1600's absolutely spotlessly clean , very friendly staff , very highly recomended.

The garden to relax in at the end of the day with a drink from the bar. Stare at the night sky.

    The friendly female receptionist

The rooms are so very old and faded. Paint flaking off the windows, a room full of flies. Like a horror movie. The sort of place that makes you want to check out immediately and move on. But much worse - they gave me food in the restaurant which so obviously was off. It smelt atrocious. I don’t think a restaurant should do that. It makes customers ill, as I have been from my one small mouthful.

Lovely location. Excellent food. Clean & comfortable.

A bit off the beaten track.

Peaceful place and easy to find. Parking on site. Very friendly staff.

Breakfast - there were no baguettes.

    3PaulPosted on: 6-27-2023

The hotel is in a very pleasant location.

Unfortunately that's the only good thing I can say about this hotel. Nobody was around when we arrived and finally it was the chef who let us in. We were told they had a special event on so we could not choose from the menu but must have a set menu which was awful. The event involved a marquee in the grounds which played really loud music until 2 am. Breakfast involved one remaining mini croissant. The owner made no attempt to deal with our complaints and had the cheek to ask that we leave a good review. No chance!

Comfortable room and bed. Good food.

Could include more generous shower gel / shampoo.

Beautiful and typical Logis in a lovely old building. Quiet setting, friendly welcome, safe bicycle storage inside. Good heating and ventilation at night. Evening 3 course meal was very good.

    Breakfast was quite basic
