Hotel Goldene Krone

The breakfast was good. I got another room without much hassle when I asked for one.

The room looked nothing like in pictures. The furniture was extremely used, dated and scuffed and style 1990s. An update had been done on the room changing floor (grey laminate instead of decent carpet) and wall (hideous grey wall tattoo instead of warm solid colour) giving a feel of hostel stay. The bathroom floor and interior looked nothing like in the pictures. When asking for hiking routes, I was given a dog walk route in long text description.

Hotel feels elegant with nice sitting areas on each floor. The rooms were spacious and very comfortable

Gorgeous building with lovely historical features. Rooms were fresh and modern.

Staff were not unfriendly, but not enthusiastic either. We got turned away from the hotel restaurant with the excuse that it was “fully booked”, yet it was only half full the entire evening. The town in itself was very local and felt tired, which was surprising considering the wide diversity of visitors. Another restaurant also used the “fully booked” excuse to not seat this alternative mixed race couple.

Charming property reminiscent of colonial style wooden buildings in the US (it was probably the other way around)

Clausthal seems to be a declining city.

A nice traditional hotel in the centre of a pleasant mountain town.We couldn’t eat at the restaurant as it was temporarily closed, however the breakfast served was very pleasant. Rooms are traditionally furnished, but clean and recently decorated.Parking is around the back of the hotel and is free.

Everything is good. Some of the staff’s command of English is not great, but they are friendly and do try, but that’s our fault for not speaking fluent German!

Lovely room, reception good and breakfast delicious. Easy walk to shops, Italian restaurant and parking.

A dog barked loudly in the hotel for two hours at night.

There was no good area to socialise with our friends in the evening as the hotel bar was closed and the lobby was really small.
