- Location and accommodation excellent and we had a wonderful view.Very relaxing in between activities.Restaurant very good Lots of activities to enable us to learn and see Arkaroola. Staff very helpful

Cons -
- A few cobwebs inside on ceiling. Should have provided face washers. More towel rails would be handy. A smaller saucepan would have been helpful.Vegetable knife was missed.
- Cost of items from store limited and pricey
- The first room we were given had a terrible sewage smell. It was so bad it made my eyes water and we couldn't be in the room. We went to tell reception which was closed but one of the bar staff came over. When we told her she shrugged and said that's just how it is and that they recommend running some water and turning the fan on. We didn't say anything because I think we were too shocked to immediately respond, so she said she could allocate us a different room (but seemed super-annoyed that we were even asking). We said we'd try the fan and water but would also check out the other room if the smell wouldn't go away. We left the fan running through dinner and went we checked after it still smelled terrible. So we changed rooms and the new room didn't smell but the door didn't lock. In fact it didn't really close properly at all. That was better than having a room that smelled so we took the new one and just pushed our luggage against the door to keep it closed. That staff member who we dealt with was pretty rude about the whole issue and every time we had any dealings with her after that. Also, the beds only had a thin, threadbare blanket on them and one flat sheet. The heating was too loud to keep on overnight and blew directly down onto one of the beds so we couldn't have it on overnight. So we froze every night. We were so disappointed with our stay. The beautiful landscape and Marco made up for it a little but we would be unlikely to stay here again.

The location was beautiful! There were cool things to do in the area - beautiful walks and interesting things to look at around the site. There was a very great staff member (Marco) who was really helpful and friendly.

The rocks and the night sky
German backpacker staff in customer service role that has no customer service and were rude
Amzing location and range of activities. Highlight was the Ridge Top Tour and Dark Sky viewing.
Included Breakfast was a bit basic
Awesome location - great hiking and 4wd trails
Shared kitchen and common spaces were not great - they had degraded since my last visit a few years ago.
Amazing location, staff, food and accomodations. I was riding my bike solo, intending to stay 2 nights. Rain began 60km from Arkaroola (from Yunta) and it did not stop for at least 2 days so I ended up staying there 4 nights.Due to the stay extension I stayed in 2 of the cottages, they were so comfy and well equipped.I will definitely be back!
Only reason I didn't give all of the stars is that the shower in the second cottage had very low water pressure. I mentioned this to the staff. I removed the shower head and cleaned a lot of debris out resolving the problem.
We prepared our own meals in the kitchen at Greenwood Lodge. But we had one meal at the restaurant, which was excellent. The guides seemed to have a post graduate level knowledge of geology, ecology and astronomy.
Perhaps a few tables and chairs could be placed in the inner part of Greenwood lodge's conference area, so that the kitchen is only used for food preparation. This would relieve congestion in the kitchen.
A wonderful resort in the middle of the ranges, the pool was a hit with the kids and the tours on offer cater to all ages and abilities.
The rooms are a bit dated and the shower heads need replacing
The bust part was the Explore the Cosmos tour which was amazing. Pity the pool was closed for cleaning we had been looking forward to a swim after all the dust travelling.
The Ridgetop tour was excellent with an informative guide. The young staff all very friendly and polite.
Only two food choices in the restaurant. There was a two hour power cut the first night, which prevented us from making dinner.Zero attention from Management.
Charming restaurant / bar staffHelpful local knowledge Good accommodation
Location was as good as it gets. The staff were all friendly and knowledgeable and spent time answering any questions I am sure they have been asked many times. Well worth the unsealed road drive to get there.
A microwave in the room would have been handy for longer stays.
Amazing geological site. Wonderful cosmo night seeing different galaxies & having amazing knowledgeable explanation re what we were observing with lovely wry commentary from Doug. Enjoyed seeing rock wallabies up close & loved the swimming pool. Best!! Very good camp kitchen.
When we arrived our bathroom was full of dead moths. It appeared, maybe wrongly, that no-one had checked it before our arrival. Also the bedside light over the double bed wasn’t working. Not huge issues given all the pluses. Also after being told I had a requested seat in the cabin of the vehicle on the ridge top tour there was another tourist in that seat when I arrived for the tour. The guide told me to talk to the other client despite my request being made earlier & confirmed the night before. I don’t think that was appropriate so I reluctantly sat in the back where I was thrown around with nothing to hold onto. I’m 78 & although pretty fit no longer have the muscle strength to sit side on etc. This should have been dealt with by the guide & not left to me to argue that I had a greater need than she for that seat.
The location is excellent after a long dusty drive and the restaurant/bar was outstanding! Keep the chef, one of the best meals we enjoyed! Live music was an unexpected bonus!
Accommodation needs improvement. Timber shutters are falling apart. Shower curtains need replacing. Tiled floor in bathroom is slippery and dangerous. Bed was not comfortable. Understand logistics for upgrading in such a remote location is challenging, however, unless you have a van/camper there is no where else and the existing facilities( pool, fuel, restaurant, astronomy, hikes) are great.
Beautiful location and great activities to do. Plus the pool was great to cool down in after a hot day.
Rude staff
The location is good, I can see the milky way at night time. It would be good if I had time to spend a few more days in the camp site.Very good value for stay compare to the stay at Wilpena Pound Resort.
We did a trail walk through Springa Mason trail, and spotted a baby snake right make me feel quite uncomfortable. Also the flys are so annoying. The place is good, just some of the nature I don't like.
The Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary is great but the accommodation was dreadful. The restaurant, swimming pool, tours and staff were high quality.
The lower priced bedroom with en-suite was very poor quality. Broken light fittings, no table and chair, small bed and a shower that blasted a single jet stream of water. These facilities need complete renovation and upgrading to a decent standard. We could have paid four times the price for a better quality room admittedly but this is really pretty poor quality. Even from a legal safety perspective, the damaged light fitting beside the bed could cause a child to be electrocuted. I asked for it to be repaired but nothing was done during the three nights of our stay. I couldn’t see any smoke detector on the room and the door locks meant you could easily be locked out of the room and are definitely not compliant for safety legislation for accommodation providers, especially in the event of a fire at night, for example. Disappointing as the rest of the experience at Arkaroola was great.
Everything, staff were amazing, so friendly and welcoming. The Ridge Top tour with Pierre was fantastic. We had an amazing 75 min flight with Doug over Arkaroola and Lake Frome, what an amazing guy, so passionate and so knowledgeable, also did an observatory tour. Sunset canapés with Russell was beautiful. Close encounters with the endangered yellow footed rock wallabies was wonderful. Food in the restaurant was exceptional
Nothing negative
