Pros +

  • The host greets you with his three adorable dogs. He is also very willing to share tips on how to get around Cozumel and what to see. There is a chicken around that lets you pet her! Potable water included.

Cons -

  • Well it was clearly not worth the money. We had paid cheaper (400 pesos/night) in Cozumel already for a whole apartment with A/C, free coffee, tea, oil, salt, pepper, etc. We read the argument about it being a 'sustainable/eco' center in the host replies to unhappy guests but just cause you want to make it sustainable it doesn't mean it has to be precarious. One can build a cabin to earn some money and improve the project etc but can do it well. Our cabin was made out of pallet wood, which is great, but it had gaps between the wood planks everywhere so you'll get rain inside through the walls if it's a bit windy. You can feel the wind from inside. Also big gaps between the door and its frame, so a rat was getting inside the cabin every night. While we don't mind wild animals much, it is very unhygienic. It ate our chocolate souvenirs from Guatemala from inside our backpacks, among other food supplies we had. There's another cabin which is better built but we didn't know that before arriving. He offered us an upgrade to that cabin before getting to Cozumel. We asked what the difference was and he only said "it's bigger". Nothing like "... so you don't get rain and rats inside". The cabin probably collapsed on one corner, the table inside was wonky, not straight at all. Also it looks like It's not going to last very long: The frame's beams are bending too much under the cabin's weight. Windows are just holes with mosquito nets, can't close them for safety. We love compost-toilets... when they are made properly. Smells pretty strong and because a plastic bag is used for the solid stuff and a sort of meshed funnel for liquid, it is hard not to miss. Wood absorbs urine. Very unhygienic. Old urine smell gets inside the cabin. The kitchen was pretty uninviting, we didn't use it. The chilling area smelled like dog poo, two chairs were broken and the table was very unstable.
