    Pros +

    • Beautiful and tranquil property. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, pool area is beautiful. The tour is very interesting and the visit to the cenote on the property is a huge bonus. Breakfast is decent and lunch is excellent. Great massage.
    • Nice bungalow. One story with lots of privacy. Very well configured, felt roomy. We made use of the private pool. The cenote was awesome!
    • The location is amazing, very peaceful and beautiful. The horseback riding tour is very nice and interesting! Nice size cabin.

    Cons -

    • Dinner was very pricey and we preferred the lunch menu, serving Mexican food instead of American/european food on the dinner menu. But as overnight guests, you have no other options for dinner so you’re pretty stuck.
    • There are no phones in the rooms, so I called the hotel number to reach reception with a couple of requests, opening the safe and fill out the pool. We did without the safe and we figured out how to fill out the pool on our own.
    • If someone asked me how would I describe the experience of staying in the Hacienda in one sentence it would be this: “Great to explore and visit, but not for a stay.” The overall impression is like the property is struggling to make ends meet. 1. The cabin we stayed in was really nice, fairly clean besides the floors. The plunge pool however was never cleaned, the water was murky and with a lot of dead insects.2. The reception staff is not really qualified. First thing - we booked a horseback riding tour and when we came to the reception to have it the lady told us that we are not on the list. It was the previous day receptionist fault, but no one apologized or even offer a discount or something. We planned our whole day based on that tour. The communication between restaurant snd reception is also questionable - you get said one thing at the reception and then another in the restaurant. 3. The restaurant(s) are another thing. If you want breakfast you go to one restaurant, and the breakfast is fairly good. If you want dinner you have to tell before to the reception what you want to eat (two choices) and then you get that. On the reception we were told it is a 4-course dinner and then we only had one meal plus dessert on our request. The waiter that served us was good and pleasant but a bit to tiring about the tips (we didn’t carry cash, but we putted every on the room). Each time he was like “no tip”? Of course we tipped at the end, but just the constant pressure of it ruined the restaurant experience.4. The main pool is really nice and spacious but it lacks maintenance. There are tiles missing and the cleanliness is not good. A lot of dead insects and feces from birds in the pool. The sunbeds are very dirty. At the end, great location, nice nature, impressive museum and history gets overshadowed by lack of enthusiasm about guests and their experience.

The rooms, the dinners and food, the staff, bird-watching and the animals roaming the property, the amount of on-site experiences- We LOVED it here. The cenote is also incredible!!! We went 3 times:)

There was no food from 2-7pm on property. We didn’t each lunch one day due to an excursion and missing that time window.

Quiet, lovely landscaping, rockers and hammocks on porch, spacious cabin with good lighting, great shower room, plenty of closet space, safe, coffee maker with kit and very comfy bed and linens. The swimming pool was gorgeous. We had 1/2 board and found dinner and breakfast very tasty.

We signed up for a horseback ride and were not given the 15% discount offered to hotel guests until we had to remind the clerk...

An amazing opportunity to stay at an authentic and historic hacienda and experience deluxe accommodations but still be immersed in nature. There are no restaurants nearby, so we had all meals here and they are simply fantastic. The hacienda tour, which we did as a private tour for 4, are very interesting and include a mule cart to the cenote (we also walked to this cenote every day). The ATV tour was also nice, as was horseback riding (all extra cost). We've stayed at other haciendas (owned by U.S. chain) before, but this was more authentic and tranquil, though a little less luxurious. The pool is simply gorgeous. There are several cenotes on the property and a herd of goats that you run into once in a while. I was very concerned this would be too touristy as I knew day tours came from Merida. You do see the tours, but hardly at all. You only see tourists if you happen to arrive at the main cenote at the same time (as a guest you can go whenever you want; it is a 15 minute walk on a trail). Also there is a small bar at the main cenote, plus bathrooms, changing rooms, and life jackets. But this isn't tourist at all. Very nice.

The lightbulb over our sink was very weak. The flies the breakfast/lunch restaurant are bad (much better in the dinner restaurant). I don't like having to wear wristbands every day. Bad for the suntan and also the environment!

Beautiful hacienda about 30 minutes drive from Merida. We stayed there 2 nights. The guests stay in bungalows, there is a room downstairs, with a small terrace and upstairs with a balcony. We had the room upstairs. The room was very nice, Big, comfortable bed, lovely shower (separated from the toilet), wardrobe, coffee-maker. We asked for an extra blanket and got that immedietly. The towels were changed after the first night. It was very quiet, and the windows had moskito nets. Amazing grounds, we also booked a tour on the haceinda to learn about the sisal making process and to visit the cenote. It is a bit costly (about 45 Euros a person with discount as a guest ) but absolutely worth it! Our guide was an archeologist (Christopher?) who did the tour in two languages, spanish and english, and could answer all of our questions. We really recommend it!

It was a bit difficult to get information from the hacienda/hotel. There was nothing proactive coming from the reception (where to go for breakfast, at what time, where to start the tour etc.). We got the impression, that the hacienda is more interested in daily tour guests then the hotel guests. At breakfast (included) there was only a small plate of fruit, a piece of sweet bread and a baguette and a choice of eggs. Enything (like expresso instead of the filtercoffee) would cost extra. We had to sign a bill for breakfast (that was the "free" breakfast" ) that summed up to 500 pesos (about 25 Euros) and asked to give at least 10% tipp. We also had dinner included in the price, with no previous information about what would be served, no questions about allergies or preferences. The dinner was 3 course, the first night we found it good, the second night was poor.

Beautiful property on an old hacienda that has been restored to a museum.

Meals are a bit confusing with different meals at different locations and no bar staff at the pool area. With this improvement this place would be 5 stars!

    The hacienda farm and cenote

The staff ignored the pool area - so there were glasses and towels sitting there for days attracting flies. This put us off .. they just needed staff to clean the pool area 3 times a day

Beautiful little villa in the middle of nowhere. Set in stunning landscape. Gorgeously decorated room and very well maintained grounds. Lovely pool and very friendly staff. Would highly recommend!

Pretty average breakfast which was pretty overpriced for what it was (Lunch and dinner were very good though!)

The location is secluded and super nice. The rooms are big, comfy, with all the amenities and a nice decor. Food was great.I did the tour as well, which was nice and informative. Cenote is also nice.

For the amount of money you pay, you arrive with certain expectations, obviously. This place is not cheap and it's a luxury hotel. Unfortunately, the welcome I received at reception was more like an inconvenience for them. Staff couldn't speak English (usually doesn't bother me, but again luxury hotel). They gave me the key and sent me off, without any introduction to the place. I had to remind them I had dinner and breakfast included, only then they made me choose my main from a WhatsApp message, again only in Spanish. The chairs in our patio were covered in bird excrements, so couldn't use them. The private pool that some rooms have it's more like stagnant water, you probably won't use it, so don't bother and go for the cheaper option. No telephone in the room to call reception, and rooms are quite far from the entrance.Swimming Pool is nice, but there is no bar service. Worst part was that at 5am a super noisy generator went off, waking us up (and every other guest as heard at breakfast). So don't expect to sleep past 5am.Again, I'm usually not bothered by most things, but this was a luxury treat for myself and it didn't meet expectations. I got far better service from a lot cheaper hotels in Merida and other places in the area.

Beautiful, peaceful setting - an oasis with good facilities. Great tour and Cenote on site.

The communication was poor - we had booked several activities beforehand, but there was no record, plus check in was delayed and poorly communicated.

All of the staff was exceptional. The receptionists were attentive and professional. The restaurant staff was awesome. They were very accommodating in satisfying our palettes. The food was delicious and classically presented. The grounds are huge and well maintained. It is a little far from main attraction; however, there are activities to do on site. Everyone there is polite and make you feel at home. I would definitely return and do recommend to visit.

The only negative was the issue with the lack of Wi Fi in the rooms.

It was a very pleasant experience. Staff was very friendly and helpful, food was amazing. There was plenty of activity’s that we was able to do (horse back riding, riding ATVs, tour of the property, pools, massages plus many more) wasn’t able to do everything since our stay was short but would have definitely enjoyed the activities due to how wonderful the experience was with the ones that we did.Great for relaxing and unwinding.

The property was very beautiful. The only thing about it was the location and how far it was from the city of Mérida (45 min in car) to be exact. But if you don’t mind the drive then you will have a wonderful experience. Plus like I said plenty of activities to do in the property.

There’s nothing quite like staying in a working hacienda. And this one is just stunning and has so much history. The cenotes were the highlight, and our horse riding.

It definitely needs more lighting on the paths for night time walking.

We loved everything about our stay in the Hacienda. Once we parked the car we decided to stay the 2 days and not leave the Hacienda. The pool was lovely to spend the afternoon around in. We loved the informative and interactive Sisal, Hacienda, Mayan house and cenote tour. The most stunning cenote I’ve been in - water so clear you could see right to the bottom. A very informative and enjoyable tour spoken in both Spanish & English for us Australians. The included breakfasts and dinners were great and we enjoyed the different locations to dine in. We had to leave early for flights and the hacienda very kindly packed us up a breakfast bag to take with us. We enjoyed this very much at the airport. Thank you

Loved everything but could have done with some lights to light up the footpaths in the evening on our way to & from dinner

We spent one night at Sotuta Peon and it was an extraordinary vacation. The room was breathtakingly beautiful, way over our expectations. We took part in the guided tour of the Hacienda. The tour is even better including the cozy cenotes. Over all an amazing experience.

    10FranciscoPosted on: 4-10-2024

Our stay at this hacienda was worth every penny. Everything from the service to the food was exceptional. The tour was extremely interesting and the optional activities like the massages and horseback rating were great! Amazing place to relax and refill your cup.

    10LeighPosted on: 4-9-2024

Breakfast was fantastic, the pool was lovely and big and 2 shallow ends for the kids to play. Beautiful grounds and the rooms were lovely.

Beds were a little hard and my son also cut his foot in the pool due to broken/missing tiles.

This is a remote, rustic and unique property. It’s kind of in the middle of nowhere; approximately an hours drive southeast of Merida. This is a working sisal hacienda although nowhere near the size of its glory days obviously. They still grow agave to produce the sisal and do tours of the facility and the process as it was in the “olden days.” We stayed for one day and night. We took the half tour which was 1-1/2 hours. The full tour is 3 hours and includes a trip to their onsite museum and cenote. A small and very good lunch is included in the tour price. Alcoholic beverages are available at additional cost. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms which is a private casita that is comprised of a bedroom, closet and full bathroom. Shower and toilet rooms are separate rooms but all within the same end of the room separated by a wall. The casita has its own private patio with a small plunge pool that could accommodate 8 people if necessary and was plenty for 2. Breakfast and dinner are included in the price of the room; again alcohol is not included but available for purchase. There are horseback and 4-wheel tours available but we opted to just relax after our walking tour. The main pool on property is quite large and well appointed. It is immediately adjacent to the dinner dining area which doesn’t open until 7 pm. For any other food and beverages, you need to go to the palapa where breakfast is served. There are peacocks strolling the area as well as ponies, mules and horses. While having morning coffee on our patio, a large flock of sheep came by! The staff were all very friendly and could speak English sufficiently. We would return for a 2-day stay just to relax, read, walk the property and take in the natural setting. If you opt for that, I would suggest taking your own alcohol or drinks as there is a small refrigerator in the rooms. No microwave but a coffee maker.

I would’ve liked for the restaurant by the pool to have been open for drinks or snacks since that’s the closest to the accommodations. However, it very well may be during high season. Not a deal breaker.
