Parking was available, but too far from our room. I use a crutch, so getting around was hard. There was no free breakfast. The room was clean and very quiet. I liked the view. It was fall, a pretty time of year. The food was good, but cost a bit much.

I had an exam at the Red Deer Polytechnic the next morning so the location of this place was fantastic. My room was very big with more amenities than I needed. Surprisingly very quiet for being next to the QE2. Everything was spotlessly clean.

The location of the Sandman is very good, within walking distance of the Cambridge Conference Centre. And just two days prior to my stay, the average rate dropped from $--- to $-- on average per night. And the two restaurants give discounts.
I didn¿t like anything about it.

Top Tips
- Book your accommodation 2-3 months in advance for Olds College events, as hotel rates can rise 20-30% during peak periods like September orientation. Many national hotel chains offer rate alerts to loyalty members, so consider joining for early notifications.
- Expect to pay Canada's 5% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on accommodation. Some Alberta municipalities add a local lodging levy, so confirm the full breakdown on your booking invoice. Indigenous travelers or those on official business may be eligible for tax exemptions - check with the front desk if this applies to you.
- Olds offers limited hotel rooms; if none fit your needs, expand your search to nearby towns like Didsbury (20 km, about 15 minutes by car), Innisfail (40 km, about 30 minutes), or Red Deer (60 km, about 40 minutes). Hotels in Red Deer include several national chains with a full range of amenities.
- For winter stays from November to March, request indoor parking or an exterior stall with electrical access for engine-block heaters, as overnight lows often reach below -20°C. Top hotel chains may provide 24-hour lobby access and well-lit parking for comfort during late arrivals in cold weather.
- If you require reliable upload/download speeds above 20 Mbps, confirm Wi-Fi speeds (in Mbps) with the front desk before arrival. Some major hotel chains publish internet policies online, and business centers or public workspaces may be available if you need a stable connection.
- Contact your hotel in advance if mobility is a concern to secure a step-free room or confirm elevator access, since many properties are older motels with exterior entrances. National chains may also offer rooms with features like roll-in showers or visual alarm devices upon request.
- Plan to arrive and eat before 8:30-9:00 PM, as most restaurants and services in Olds close earlier than those in large cities. For late-night meals, look for national chains such as Tim Hortons or McDonald’s, or 24-hour convenience stores and fuel stations nearby.
- Choose national chain hotels if you prioritize standardized bedding, published Wi-Fi policies, or earning loyalty points, since some local properties may not offer these. If booking through a third-party site and earning rewards is important, verify with the hotel brand whether your reservation qualifies for points.
