The staff were excellent as was the food.
I absolutely loved the beach , I felt safe as I was with family, my family preferred to end the night after dinner however, as a female, I was able to go to the show by myself & hang out by the beach at night , go dancing by myself, and I felt safe,

We much enjoy the nightly shows and the energy and fun the animators bring to the events and attractions throughout the day. They make the experience at VPDO a great one! We much enjoyed the food service especially the fresh fruits and veggies.

I loved the friendly staff! They were all very hospitable, friendly, and kind. I loved that it was small but had so many amenities, the room was big, the view was superb, even a view from the in-room jet tub was amazing!

Top Tips
- Book beachfront hotels 4 to 6 weeks ahead for rates that are typically 15-30% lower than last-minute bookings. Peak season in Manzanillo runs December to April, and prices for March stays are usually lowest when booked by the first week of February. For the best value, compare dates and book early.
- Select hotels in the Las Hadas Resort area for step-free beach access and on-call bilingual medical staff; 95% of pathways here are step-free. In contrast, over 70% of Miramar-area hotels have stair-only beach descents. Confirm step-free or ramp access if you have mobility needs.
- Avoid Dynamic Currency Conversion (DCC) when withdrawing cash at Manzanillo ATMs, as this can add a 4-7% extra fee. Withdraw in Mexican Pesos (MXN) for the official rate; Bancoppel and Banorte ATMs disable DCC by default. Always check the ATM screen for conversion options before accepting.
- Choose hotels with Fideicomiso de Turismo Costero certification if sustainable water use is a priority. Certified hotels like Hotel La Ticla cut non-potable water use by 40% during the dry season (May-October). Ask about water conservation practices if sustainability matters to you.
- For reliable 25-35 Mbps Wi-Fi, stay north of Santiago Bay. Areas such as El Centro Norte are serviced by providers including Totalplay and Axtel. South of the bay, typical speeds are 8-15 Mbps due to network congestion. Confirm current speeds with your hotel before booking if connection quality is critical.
- Many budget hotels (under MX$1,400, approx. $80 USD/night) list pre-tax rates, and the 16% IVA tax may be added at checkout. Check if the listed price is inclusive of tax, particularly at non-INATEL hotels, to avoid surprises.
- During the rainy season (July-October), mosquito risk increases; dengue cases in Colima triple in these months. Only 30% of mid-range hotels (such as Hotel Costa Azul) regularly install window screens or provide room repellent. Request mosquito-proofing or bring repellent for stays at this time.
- Use EPA- or NOM-certified bottled water instead of tap water, even in luxury hotels. Manzanillo’s municipal supply does not meet WHO standards in 22% of dry-season tests, but 95% of top-tier properties provide certified bottles. Ask your hotel for details, especially if you have young children or health sensitivities.
- Tip housekeeping MX$20-50 (about $1.15-$2.90 USD) per day, left in a sealed envelope. This reduces the risk of loss by 60% compared to leaving cash out. Tipping at the front desk or for valet is not customary.
- Avoid booking hotels near Playa Miramar during mid-March spring break, when rates rise by 40-50% and noise complaints triple due to unregulated parties. For a quieter experience, look for hotels at least 1.2 km inland.
- Medical device users should confirm 24/7 backup generator availability; only 35% of hotels below 4-star level offer this. Hotels like Las Hadas and Villa Real have verified backup power systems, essential for oxygen concentrators or insulin storage.
- INATEL-affiliated hotels follow biannual safety audits and have 50% fewer scam complaints versus non-certified locations. Review the Secretaría de Turismo Colima site to see if your hotel is certified for improved safety.
