Location is good. Walking distance to shops/restaurants in Sonora downtown.
Room smelled of mildew due to water leaking through the ceiling from room above us. Water in bathroom ran rust/brown every morning. Pounding on the ceiling all night and finally the water poured out of the ceiling into tub while we were in it.

Location and welcoming staff.
It was available and highly rated. There was fresh bedding. There were many things that did not sync with the rating, that were incidental to hotel age and the fact it was undergoing renovation, the room smelled like paint.

Top Tips
- Book summer and holiday stays 30-60 days ahead to secure availability, as peak demand spans late May to September due to Yosemite traffic and holiday weekends. For flexibility, compare refundable rate options during your search.
- Check the Railtown 1897 schedule before booking weekend nights, as public train excursions and filming can affect quiet hours and parking. For current event or closure updates, ask your hotel; some properties offer reserved guest parking.
- Confirm your hotel's backup power capabilities if visiting during wildfire season (August to October), as Public Safety Power Shutoffs can disrupt Wi-Fi and climate control. If you require refrigerated medication, working elevators, or other accessible amenities, alert the front desk in advance.
- Request a ground-floor room in historic downtown hotels, as many Jamestown properties lack elevators and step-free access may be limited. Contact the hotel before arrival to ask about accessible rooms, ramps, or extra space for mobility equipment if needed.
- Use Sonora, about 6-8 miles (10-15 minutes) away, for supermarkets, pharmacies, and 24-hour services, as Jamestown has limited options. Ask your hotel if shuttle service, rideshare arrangements, or basic toiletries and medication are available at the front desk before heading out.
- Expect Wi-Fi variability at smaller properties and confirm upload and download speeds (in Mbps) with the hotel before booking if you need reliable remote work connectivity. If in-room Wi-Fi is inconsistent, ask about business center access or dedicated workspaces.
- Check event calendars for the Tuolumne County Fair and Railtown special events, as rates and occupancy spike and rooms often sell out earlier around these dates. Consider joining hotel email lists or loyalty programs for early event notifications or priority booking.
- Confirm hotel parking or vehicle access for weekend tourist periods, since street and lot parking near downtown can fill quickly during summer and Railtown events. Ask if the property provides reserved, valet, or accessible parking, or shuttle options from public lots.
