Business-Class Flights from San Francisco to Amsterdam

Amsterdam is one of the most visited cities in the world. In 2023 alone, it welcomed a record-breaking number of 9.4 million tourists, and for good reason. Its rich history, picturesque canals, and vibrant architecture have to be experienced by everyone at least once in their lifetime. If you want to visit the Dutch capital, consider booking your flight there in business class. You will get to enjoy all the perks of premium travel: comfortable plane seats that recline completely, chef-curated meals, access to exclusive business lounges, priority services at the airport and on board, and so much more!

The business-class experience is only getting better as the years go by. For instance, in 2024, Cathay Pacific announced that they upgraded the business seats on their Boeing 777-300ER planes. Known as the “Aria Suite,” these seats are covered in natural wool and surrounded by soft suede walls, and they feature sliding doors for enhanced privacy, multiple charging outlets, and several storage spaces that will fit all of your belongings. The upgrade comes as part of the $12.87 billion sum that Cathay Pacific is investing in its fleet and airport lounges over the next several years.

They are not the only airline that strives to offer its customers the best possible business-class product. In fact, many airlines are doing the same. To help you pick the one that suits you and your needs the best, we have put together this guide. Here, we will go over some major airlines that offer business flights to Amsterdam and all of the benefits that they have to offer.

Planning Your Trip To Amsterdam

While the San Francisco area is served by 3 airports — San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Oakland International Airport (OAK), and San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC) — business-class flights to Amsterdam (AMS) depart only from SFO.

If you want to board nonstop flights from SFO, you can opt for the ones offered by United Airlines and KLM. These flights take approximately 10 hours. United Airlines tickets usually cost between $4,300 and $6,600, while KLM tickets may cost more, between $4,100 and $7,500.

Air Canada provides connecting flights from SFO to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, with layovers in Montreal (YUL) and Toronto (YYZ). The flights may take 14 to 17 hours, and they typically cost up to 20% less than nonstop flights, between $4,100 and $6,100.

During your layover at the Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (YUL), you can admire the art installations and murals that are placed throughout the airport. They were created by Canadian artists as part of the YULArt art program, with the goal of contributing to the artistic development of the city.

At the YUL airport, you can also pay a visit to the Maple Leaf Lounge at Gate 52. This lounge is approximately 11,000 square feet and has enough space for 259 travelers. It is modern, with cozy wooden floors and dark furniture, while still bright due to the floor-to-ceiling windows. There are plenty of comfortable armchairs and sofas here, as well as semi-private chairs for those who want more privacy.

When it comes to food, there is a self-serve buffet and a live cooking station in this lounge, where you can enjoy many hot and cold healthy meals, salads, soups, sandwiches, and desserts. The buffet also offers drinks like water, soda, coffee, tea, and beer. If you want a glass of wine or a barista-made coffee, you can head to the bar. The Maple Leaf Lounge even has 2 shower facilities for anyone looking to freshen up.

If your layover is at the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), you will also have access to the Maple Leaf Lounge. It offers a very similar experience to the one found at YUL, as it has the same facilities: comfortable seating options, complimentary food and beverages, and shower suites. There is also a duty-free shop at YYZ airport, where you can purchase luxury goods from internationally famous brands as well as local Canadian products.

If you are departing to Amsterdam from another city, like Atlanta (ATL), you can opt for nonstop flights operated by Delta Air Lines. These flights take 8 hours and 30 minutes, and they cost between $4,500 and $7,200.

As for connecting flights, Turkish Airlines offers ones with layovers at Istanbul Airport (IST). The flight duration greatly depends on how long your layover is, but it may take from 16 to 29 hours. Round-trip tickets during off-season typically cost 15 to 45% less than nonstop flights — $2,400 to $5,400 — but they may cost as much as $7,500 during high season.

During your layover at the Istanbul Airport (IST), you can get acquainted with Turkey’s rich history by paying a visit to the Istanbul Airport Museum. This museum opened in 2020, and it displays 316 items with great historical value, such as the “Kadesh Treaty”, the first peace treaty in the history of humanity. Tickets cost €13 ($14), and you can visit the museum between 8:30 am and 11:00 pm daily.

As a perk of flying in business class with Turkish Airlines, you will also get access to their highly esteemed Business Lounge. Regardless of what you want to do before your next flight — eat, work, or rest — you can do it here. The lounge has many seating areas, including individual cabins, if you want a quiet space to rest. A business center with iMacs is available for travelers who need to work. If you’re traveling with children, you can take them to the kids' area, where there is a small playground for them to run around. As for food, here you can find various food stations for both buffet and made-to-order Turkish specialties.

If you are flying to Amsterdam out of Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), you can board nonstop flights offered by American Airlines. These flights are seasonal, so they are only available during peak travel season, from May 5th until September 21st. They take about 9 hours. Round-trip tickets on this route typically cost between $5,100 and $7,000.

United Airlines offers connecting flights from DFW to AMS, with layovers in Newark (EWR), Washington (IAD), Houston (IAH), or Chicago (ORD). The total travel time depends on the layover length, but it can be 12 to 17 hours. Tickets for these connecting flights usually range from $4,900 to $6,300, up to 10% less than nonstop flights.

United Airlines has a vast network of business lounges, and that is proven by the fact that regardless of where your layover is going to be, you will have access either to a United Club lounge or to their top-notch United Polaris lounges. Thus, at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD), you can access not 1 or 2 but a collective of 8 United Club lounges. They offer the basic amenities that one can expect in a business lounge, such as complimentary food and drinks, high-speed Wi-Fi, and plenty of comfortable seating options.

At Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), and Newark Airport (EWR), you will be able to relax inside the United Polaris lounges. They are some of the best business lounges in the US, and you will definitely enjoy your experience there.

These luxurious lounges have many plush couches and armchairs and even private solo seats where you can get some work done if you need to. À la carte dining is a Polaris staple, and you can get a variety of meals prepared for you by chefs, just like in a high-end restaurant. There are also buffets for travelers who want to grab a quick bite. At the bars, you can try one of their signature cocktails or another beverage of your liking. Travelers who want to relax before their flight can take advantage of the private nap rooms and shower suites, which work on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Choosing the Best Airline for Your Trip

The San Francisco–Amsterdam route is currently served by the following airlines: Alaska Airlines, Air Canada, Air France, Aer Lingus, Condor Airlines, Delta Air Lines, KLM, Lufthansa, SWISS, and JetBlue.
We will look at 3 of them more closely: Delta Air Lines, Air France, and Lufthansa. These airlines offer the most frequent daily flights and outstanding business-class experiences.

Delta Air Lines

Lounge Access & Perks: Travelers who fly in Delta Air Lines’ business class have access to 2 lounges at San Francisco International Airport: Delta Sky Club and Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse.
The Delta Sky Club can be found in Terminal 1, near gate C3. The lounge is separated into 2 areas: the front half has floor-to-ceiling windows with runway views and comfortable seating options, while the other half offers more enclosed desks and cubby-style workspaces. Most seats have their own power outlets, and there is a printer available to use for free.

As for food in this lounge, you can enjoy seasonally inspired hot meals, salads, sandwiches, and snacks. There are options for travelers who have a vegan or gluten-free diet as well. If you want a drink, you can head to the bar, where most alcoholic beverages like wine, beer, and classic cocktails are complimentary. Those who would like a non-alcoholic beverage can take advantage of the coffee machine (that only uses Starbucks beans), the soda machine, or grab some lemonade from the self-serve station.

If you’re looking for entertainment options, you can connect to the complimentary Wi-Fi or watch your favorite sports team on one of the TVs. The lounge also has shower facilities, which have to be reserved on the spot.

The San Francisco Clubhouse is located in the International Terminal, Concourse A. This lounge perfectly captures the laid-back style that San Francisco is known for. This modern lounge has windows facing the tarmac, so you can relax while watching the planes land and take off. There is also complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the lounge.

The food that you can enjoy here includes a variety of West Coast-inspired dishes made with the freshest locally sourced ingredients. They can include chicken burgers, pan-fried salmon with vegetables, clam chowder, vegetable tacos, ice cream, fruit salads, and many others. As for drinks, you can choose between different kinds of regular black or herbal teas, soft drinks, champagne, wine (white, red, and rosé), beer, and cocktails. You can also freshen up in a shower before your flight, as there are shower facilities available here.

Seat Type & Cabin Layout: Delta uses 3 aircraft models for the SFO–AMS route: Airbus A330-900neo, Airbus A350, and Airbus A330. All 3 planes feature a 1-2-1 seat configuration with fully lie-flat seats. You will have direct aisle access and privacy regardless of what seat you pick. That is because the seats on the Airbus A330 are positioned at an angle, away from other passengers, while the seats on the Airbus A330-900neo and the Airbus A350 have doors you can close. All the seats have personal entertainment screens, in-seat power outlets, storage space, and satellite TV.

Meal & Beverage Service: Travelers flying in Delta Air Lines’ business class, also known as Delta One, will enjoy a main course, snacks, a pre-arrival meal, as well as complimentary beverages (Thrive Farmers’ tea, beer, wine, and spirits). All of the meals are chef-curated and prepared with regionally sourced ingredients. Delta Air Lines also caters to travelers with dietary restrictions. Thus, if you are gluten-free, vegetarian, or vegan, you can pick between 11 special main meals on the Fly Delta app. You can also choose the regular main course in advance, 7 days to 24 hours before the departure of your flight.

Cost Range:Delta Air Lines offers connecting, round-trip business flights that typically cost between $4,600 and $6,700. Last-minute flights are more expensive — they may range from $7,600 to $10,400. By buying your tickets 3-4 months prior to departure, you can get them for as low as $4,200.

Frequent Flyer Program:SkyMiles is Delta Air Lines’ frequent flyer program. Enrolled members earn miles every time they fly with Delta Air Lines. More precisely, if you fly in business class, you earn 5 miles per $1 spent on Delta flights. Thus, if you purchase a $6,000 ticket, you will get 30,000 miles. You can use them later to purchase a ticket and add cash if you haven’t accumulated enough miles. For example, a round-trip business-class ticket to Amsterdam would cost you about 270,000 miles and 120 extra dollars.

In 2024, Delta Air Lines was declared ‘Airline of the Year’ by Global Traveler for notable achievements in hospitality transport, hospitality, and loyalty services. If you want to experience all of those yourself, don’t hesitate to book your business-class tickets with Delta Air Lines.

Air France

Lounge Access & Perks: Air France operates a dedicated lounge at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which can be found in International Terminal A. This lounge underwent renovation in 2023 and is now a chic space with wood and leather decor. Its centerpiece is the self-serve buffet that offers French-inspired cuisine. Here, you can enjoy hot and cold meals, salads, charcuterie boards with cheeses, cold cuts, fruits, and desserts.

You can head to the staffed bar to get a glass of French wine, champagne, spirits, or a cocktail. There are also self-serve beverage stations where you can grab some coffee or top up your glass with more champagne by yourself. If you are traveling for work, you can take advantage of the workspaces, which feature comfortable chairs with plenty of power outlets, high tables, and, of course, free Wi-Fi (also available throughout the whole lounge). The lounge has shower facilities that you can use as well.

Seat Type & Cabin Layout: Air France uses 2 aircraft models for the San Francisco–Amsterdam route: Boeing 777 and Airbus A350. The seats on both aircraft models have a 1-2-1 seat configuration and are fully lie-flat. All seats have direct aisle access, in-flight entertainment touchscreens, universal AC and USB-A sockets, and storage compartments. The middle seats have a panel in between them that you can raise for more privacy.

Meal & Beverage Service: Air France took in-flight dining to the next level. While you’re thousands of miles up in the air, you will be served a French-style 5-course meal created by the inventive chef Dominique Crenn. That includes an aperitif and an amuse-bouche, a starter, a main course, cheese, and dessert. The main course includes dishes that rotate monthly, like stone bass with pumpkin, mushroom, and matelote sauce; open ravioli with courgette, tomato, and hazelnut parmesan sauce; and trout with Swiss chard, seeded crumble, and lemon beurre blanc. These mouthwatering dishes are paired with wine curated by Paolo Basso, who was declared the best sommelier in the world by Association de la Sommellerie Internationale in 2013.

Cost Range: Business-class tickets for connecting flights generally range from $5,600 to $7,600. Last-minute flights cost more, between $7,700 and $10,900. By buying your tickets 4-5 months in advance, you can get them for a lower-than-average price: $4,200 to $5.600.
Frequent Flyer Program: Air France’s loyalty program is called Flying Blue. It allows members to earn at least 4 miles per € spent on their flights. Thus, if you spend $4,500 or €4,324 on a business ticket, you will accumulate at least 17,296 miles. You can use these miles to purchase tickets and other travel-related services. For example, if you wanted to get a round-trip business ticket from San Francisco to Amsterdam, it would cost you approximately 100,000 miles.

In 2025, Air France won the APEX 5-Star Airlines Award. This award was given to them for excellence in customer service, varied catering, high-quality inflight entertainment, and outstanding seat comfort. If those things are important to you, then Air France is the way to go.

Lufthansa

Lounge Access & Perks: Lufthansa doesn’t operate its own lounges at SFO, but business travelers get access to their partners’ lounges. Thus, you can access the United Club, located in Terminal 3 (Level 3, near Gate E4), and the United Polaris Lounge in the International Terminal.

United Club: This lounge is a modern space with many seating options and plenty of natural sunlight. Here, you can find a buffet that offers snacks, wraps, sandwiches, and desserts. As for beverages, you can get water, soda, coffee, and tea from self-serve machines. For alcoholic drinks, head to the bar, where you can get complimentary beer, wine, and standard spirits. There are areas in this lounge that are suitable for work, like the ones that have high-top benches or banquette seats with power outlets.

United Polaris Lounge: Designed to comfortably fit 440 travelers, this spacious 2-floor lounge is the largest of its kind in the network. It is modernly decorated in white, blue, and gold tones and has something for everyone. You can grab a quick bite from the buffet or get made-to-order meals in the dining room. If you want to relax, you can head to the bar or the nap rooms.
The Polaris Lounge offers spacious shower suites where you can freshen up before your flight. There is also a library-style area here, which is a perfect choice for travelers who need to catch up with work. Throughout the lounge, you can find fast Wi-Fi and over 400 type A and B power outlets.

Seat Type & Cabin Layout: Lufthansa uses Airbus A350 and Boeing 747 for the San Francisco–Amsterdam route. Both planes feature a 2-2-2 seating configuration in business class. They are fully lie-flat and equipped with personal entertainment systems, power outlets, and storage compartments.

Starting on the 30th of March 2025, flights on the Airbus A350 with numbers LH458 and LH459 are guaranteed to have the newest Lufthansa seat configuration — Allegris. You will be able to choose between 5 different seat types: standard seats, seats with extra-long beds, window seats with a high degree of privacy, extra space seats, and suites found in the first row. Meal & Beverage Service: Lufthansa’s business-class in-flight dining is characterized by exquisite food served on porcelain tableware, fine wines, and attentive service. After you board the plane, a crew member will always be available to you throughout the flight. After take-off, they will bring you the menu so you can see what dishes will be served. While the menus rotate every few months, the dining service typically consists of a 3-course main meal, followed by a pre-arrival meal that will be hot or cold, depending on your preferences. Lufthansa also offers a wide selection of bread, lavash crackers, and pretzel buns. As for beverages, you can choose between a variety of non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages: water, fruit juice, soda, German beer, wine, tea, or coffee.

Cost Range: Connecting business-class flights with Lufthansa typically cost $4,400 to $6,600. Last-minute tickets tend to be more expensive; their prices may range from $7,600 to $9,600. If you buy your tickets 4 months in advance, you can get them at a lower price — $4,100.

Frequent Flyer Program: Lufthansa's Miles & More loyalty program allows members to earn miles on flights operated by the airline or its partners. More accurately, you can earn 4 miles per €1 spent. So, if you buy a ticket that is worth €6,000 or $6,530, you will earn 24,000 miles. You can use these miles to purchase tickets, get seat upgrades, and get other travel perks.

Arriving in Amsterdam

Flying business class to Amsterdam comes with many perks. Once you arrive at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol (AMS), you will be among the first passengers to disembark. After this, you will go through immigration. This process usually takes about 40 minutes, and it is influenced by how many planes will land at the same time as yours. Then, you will go through security. All travelers who fly in business class, regardless of airline, have access to the priority security lines at AMS. They usually have short lines, so you can quickly get security out of the way. All that is left is to pick up your luggage from the baggage claim area. Your bags have priority and are loaded on the carousel first, so this, too, will take little time.
Navigating the Schiphol airport might seem intimidating at first, even for experienced travelers. That is why the airport released a detailed map on their website. After you access it, the map will show you exactly where you are — in your case, on the ground floor, reserved for arrivals. This floor has information desks where you can request information from the airport staff, as well as bars, coffee shops, pharmacies, restaurants, and ATM machines.

Travel Tips for Business Class Fliers

Flying to Amsterdam in business class might be the best decision if you want to start off your trip on the right foot. And although the tickets may sometimes be pricey, certain strategies will help you experience the luxury of business class and save some money at the same time. We will give you some tips that will help you have the business-class experience of your dreams while still staying cost-efficient.

Pick layover flights: Nonstop flights are many people’s choice, and for good reason. They get you to your destination very quickly and conveniently. Yet, their prices tend to be higher than those of connecting flights. If you are willing to add a couple of hours to your trip, that could save you up to 10-20% and even up to 45% on certain routes.

Choose an optimal booking window: Ticket prices are never fixed. They vary depending on many factors, like whether you purchase them during high or low travel season, how far in advance you book them before your trip, and how popular your destination city is. We advise purchasing the tickets you need approximately 3 to 5 months before your trip, as that is usually when prices will be the lowest.

Use loyalty programs: Many airlines nowadays offer loyalty or frequent flyer programs. Enrolled members earn miles (or “points”) each time they fly with the airline or its partners. You can use these miles to add more luggage to your ticket, upgrade your seats or cabin class, and get many other travel perks. Some frequent flyer programs are AAdvantage, Miles & More, and SkyMiles.

Book with OTAs: Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) have access to many deals that are not posted anywhere else online. For example, on priceline.com, you can find hotels and plane tickets that are up to 50% off. We also offer convenient package deals, so you can bundle your hotel, flights, and car rentals at discounted prices, all in one transaction.
