Hotel Guest Reviews of the Chicago's Essex Inn

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Location was close to Grant Park and the south shore train line. Made it convenient for a train ride and a walk to the hotel. Some old town charm in the facade, rooms were moderate.
No temperature control for room. Hotel has two temps. Hot and cold. Depending on the season, they adjust it to hear or cool...

Nice pool area, beautiful views, on one side. The other 3 leave room for improvement, and it's way overpriced for the amenities

Location and cleanness
The parking garage under the hotel was very expensive and there was no discount for the hotel guests.

The short distance from all downtown attractions
The rooms weren't the cleanest and the garage lost my keys for a little while. Came and said they were locked in when they weren't. And made us miss our show

Hotel wasn't terrible But could had a lower star rating on the website. Many hidden cost The hotel had as well. After arriving, I had to pay and addition 125 total to get into my room

It was a great value / price. It was very clean, safe, comfortable and practical. Its close enough to many Chicago attractions.
It is a little far from nightlife, however the red line is just a block and a half nearby to get you to some hot spots.

It was nicer than I had expected it to be.

All of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful
The heating/cooling system was a disaster, the room was freezing with no way to change it. There were no hand towels or washcloths. There was no "welcome packet" of information about the hotel - bad for figuring out wifi and other things.

Common spaces were nice, location was okay if not great

Location for access to Field Museum, Adler Planetarium and Shedd Aquarium was wonderful. Free Wi-Fi was helpful. Staff was very friendly.
Pool a bit too cold for the kids.

The customer service was excellent. asked for extra towels late at night and they were brought to the room within 10 minutes.
Parking is a problem. They do offer valet parking but I think it is pricey. There are lots you can park in that are less expensive, which is OK unless the weather is bad. There is also metered parking, but that is outrageously expensive.

Overall the hotel is impressive. I do plan on staying here again in the summer.

The location was perfect.
The front desk staff was less than helpful.

The room was smaller than expected, but overall good.

The service was great. The staff answered questions and were swift to help when needed.
It would have been helpful to have a informational binder in the room with lists of restaurants, quick reference to pool rules, and room service options.
