Hotel Guest Reviews of the Vallarta Sun Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The best thing about this hotel is definitely the location. Is like two blocks from playa de los muertos where there are a bunch of bars on the sand. Since I like to drink in those places its great, no taxi and two blocks away.
I had to pay extra for a/c. It had no fridge/minifridge, no microwave. I had stayed here before and it did include everything. The staff was ok, but there used to be a more helpful person before. I saw him around but not in checkin. Dirty towels for pool.

This was the second time I stayed in this hotel. The first time was great, everything. Has great location. I saw one thing that changed since last time, which makes me not want to stay here again. Keep in mind you pay until you are in checkin and you must pay there, not through Priceline. Last time, in the lobby, I saw that they had prices and discount information. You could get a better price if you stayed longer. Now, this last time I went, they had this, but also added a table of services and their increased price. I had purchased my room from Priceline, it was the only type available. So now, when I checked in I had to pay, in pesos. I already knew this but I forgot. You don't pay what it says in Priceline, you pay an equivalent to what you would pay if the dollar-peso exchange was at 10 pesos/1 dollar, while it was at around 13.50/1 dollar when I went. I paid more dollars, my dollars were worth less. And the fault is the hotel. Why? Because you can pay in dollars and pay what you reserved it for, but it has to be cash dollars. So I ended up paying like 300 pesos extra or around 25 dollars more for two days, for not having cash dollars. Regarding this table of services I mentioned. They gave me my key they tell me it does not have a/c, that if I wanted it I had to pay an extra 100 pesos/day. I asked if they would change my room, and no. Every room has a/c, but you strictly need the remote for it to work. So they give you the remote for 100 extra pesos. When I get to the room, it has no microwave and not mini fridge, which it did have last time for around the same price. I wanted to use the safety box, and received no key for it. When I went to ask for it, because there is no phones in the room, they kind of didn't want to give it to me. And even told me "don't lose it, it the only one." Of course I want it to be the only one... Overall, I used to like this hotel, but no more. Great location, but I am going to try the other small hotels around the area. ...read more

pretty great location. within walking distance to all the action.
They charged a higher rate than the priceline guarantee, it wasnt much more but they didnt seem to be aware of the deal.

the location is great. as for amenities, you get what you pay for. totally adequate for a bed to come back to after a night on the town.

Small friendly hotel in romantic zone only 2 blocks from the beach. Nice pool, quiet at night, balcony overlooking pool and neighborhood. If you want to be in the old town, near the Malecon and beach, this is a nice quiet and economical decent hotel.

Good quiet friendly clean safe family hotel in Romantic Zone with air conditioning and pleasant patio and swimming pool. Not a resort, just a good value with access to town markets and beaches.

The hotel was a pleasant, calm oasis. The entire staff was cordial and helpful in response to all our needs.
I would have liked to know that the hotel had filtered water and wifi (not just internet). I would have liked to know that they would have taken US dollars for payment, so that I didn't have to go through the inconvenience of exchange to Pesos.
