Hotel Guest Reviews of the Universal's Loews Portofino Bay Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The greatest aspect of this hotel is the location to the parks. You no longer feel obligated to squeeze every possible minute out of the theme park. If you need a break take the free water taxi or walk about 3/4 a mile back to the hotel.
I believe each resort only has two boats for transport ( I would like to know if it's possible to increase the number of boats). It seemed like we always decided to walk because we didn't want to wait 20 mins or longer for a boat ride.

We enjoyed the hotel as a whole. One of the restaurants was absolutely terrible. Please do not eat @ the Trattoria del Porto ( terrible service and terrible food. I wasn't even about to get a refill on water.) The express pass for the parks cuts in wait times a great deal depending on which ride. Not all rides accept the express pass which is stupid since those are the rides you really need them. The local of the hotel is great. I expected the bath towels to be nicer but were very ruff (good luck getting more than 2). We had a light out in the bathroom and never got it replaced. Overall still positive experience. ...read more

Beautiful grounds, incredibly comfortable beds, and the perk of getting an express pass into the Universal parks is a fantastic benefit
No refrigerator in the room. Also, I wish I had known about the express pass being included, because I bought express passes separately. Fortunately the park was willing to refund my money, but it would have been really nice to know.

We love the Portifino and will go back. The staff is amazing, the hotel is extremely clean and the location is great.
For the room price, I would think that things like free internet, free parking and free gym use would be included. These were all extra charges and they added up. This was frustrating.

We love the Portifino but hate how they nickel and dime you. They charge for things that Disney hotels include in their rates.

Friendly attentive staff
Showing its age-broken knob on dresser, doorknob to bathroom falls off

A nice on location hotel. Staff all friendly and attentive but facility needs a bit of attention. To their credit-saw updating occurring while we were there-painting and room renovation.

Nice.
Additional charge for everything. Really expensive.

You are charged for everything, even Internet (15 USD/day) and parking (17 USD/day). A bottle of water at the room is 7 USD/day. They did not fulfill the entertainment program, maybe because there was not too many people. Besides that, the hotel was in renovation and it was really noisy during the day. Too expensive for the services provided. Not worthy. We will not come back to this hotel. ...read more

Convenient to parks yet away from the crowds.
The beds were not very comfortable and the parking price was high.

Nice amenities, we ate at 2 of the on site restaurants and they were both good. It was convenient to City Walk and Universal. I thought the bed was not very comfortable and the wi-fi and parking prices were a bit ridiculous since I was paying for 2 rooms for a week already.

Beautiful, great proximity to Universal Studios, fast pass bonus! clean, comfortable, quiet.
The hotel itself is pretty spread out and the hot tub by the beach pool was not as warm at the other one.

Excellent hotel for Universal Studios visitors! My husband and I would stay there again!

Recreated the atmosphere of an Italian town and piazza. Very lovely.
Need visible recycling for paper, plastic, cans, etc.

Outstanding. Staff were terrific. Room was comfortable. Sitting with a glass of wine in the piazza listening to live operatic singers was amazing. The additional bonus of having express passes to Universal Studios and a short 10-15 walk each way (if we didn't feel like taking water taxi) was well worth it.

Beautiful views and public spaces, better than average bedding, large bathroom, Universal fast passes were a great bonus.
Sprawling property with no easy way to get to lobby, parking, transportation without significant walking and steps.

Amazing. So clean and enjoyable. Express passes definitely made the trip also.
Nothing

Marble lobby with crisp, clean rooms. Keurig machines for morning coffee in the room was nice. Pools were great, one for the kids with a mini beach and slide and one for a quieter more relaxed feeling. Great massage at the spa which was a relaxing way to end the day at the park. Lots of boats and even shuttles available to take you to and from the parks for free, even the richshaw guys work just for tips if you dont feel like waiting! ...read more
