While many of the states located with New England date as far back as the founding of the United States, few were as influential in the final days as was Connecticut. The state is firmly rooted in the country's history and struggle for independence and today it is an affluent, charming destination. Visitors to Connecticut will delight in the quaint New England flavor that permeates every city and town. Coastal beaches offer cool summer options and the state's relative location to New York City, allows for fresh and trendy ideas to keep it young and vibrant. Connecticut has staked its claim in finance, insurance and manufacturing ventures, making it a key location for business travel. Just as well are the theme parks, college and universities, and natural attractions that make the state ideal for family and leisure travel too. Whatever the need, every town and city offers accommodations ranging from family friendly to business professional.

A relatively small state, Connecticut has five main regions. Both Coastal Fairfield and the Greater New Haven regions are close to New York City, making it a good overnight choice, and the Atlantic Ocean. Cities such as New Canaan, Stamford, Durham and New Haven bring vibrancy and interest to the lower western portion of the state. It is in this region that families will enjoy the many nature and coastal centers available as well as zoos, museums, historic sites and Universities such as Yale. While visiting, tourists and guests are able to sit back and relax at affordable lodgings such as bed and breakfasts, inns, and hotels.

Litchfield Hills and River Valley are scenic and quaint. Small towns, antique shopping, museums and theme parks are main attractions to these two regions. Both offer American and contemporary art museums and River Valley has fun, historic adventures like riding along the Connecticut River on a riverboat, or spending the day on an old-fashioned train. Long days spent viewing the country side and experiencing American history culminate with a warm home-cooked traditional meal and cozy lodging at some of the local towns Historic Guest Housing, Inns or hotels. Bordering Rhode Island on the East, Connecticut's Mystic Country is well known for the Mystic Seaport, casinos and historic homesteads. Here weary visitors and tourist may rest their heads and feet at any of the many available bed and breakfasts, motels or budget-priced hotels.
