Hotel Guest Reviews of the Union Hotel - Bed And Breakfast

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Location, Old Charm.
Room carpet was stained, AC did not work. Tiny TV.

Needs some TLC, but could be fixed up. Much better than staying by the Highway, if you are a tourist.

The owners have gone out of their way to make the hotel Victorian, with lot of nice, genuine touches that really make the experience. At the same time, modern amenities like the very deep and large whirlpool tub are there too. A hidden gem in a good spot.
Check in time- 3pm-6pm is a little narrow, and breakfast between 8:30am and 9:30am is a narrow window too. But for a family run small business in a sleepy peaceful small town it's understandable.

This place, built as a port hotel during the California gold rush, has character and 19th century style to spare. It felt like real 19th century instead of the glitzy magazine victoriana B&Bs go for sometimes. Little realistic touches, like a bed so high they provided a small (antique) staircase to climb up onto it. Clothes storage was in a 19th century wardrobe, and a trunk at the foot of the bed. We stayed in a room on the corner on the 3rd floor, and even in June didn't need to start up the AC, with a lovely cool breeze flowing through. We happened to be there on the day of the farmer's market, which we enjoyed immensely. Thankfully we have checked in 4ish while there was still some parking. The market was a big deal attended mainly by locals and it surrounded the hotel, with the sounds and smells wafting though the open windows. The restaurant downstairs had quite a few people in it in the evening, and with live music that lasted until 10pm. At 10pm sharp everything shut down, but we eventually had to close the windows due to some drunk local teenagers being loud later on. The deep bathtub with whirlpool jets was fantastic, so we could forgive it not being totally period. :) This hotel would be an awesome place for a steampunk event.. I'd love to see those creaky halls and Victorian dining hall filled with crinoline and waistcoats. They say this hotel is haunted be a benevolent ghost, but we didn't see him on our stay. : ) The prices are very reasonable for a BnB.. in fact very reasonable for a hotel in the bay area. Why stay in a boring particle board McMotel when you could partake in Victorian finery for about the same price? ...read more

Yes.. see review below. Our Confirmation # MKELMWRP4

Check in time 3:00 PM. Arrived at 1:30. No one around. Called and left a message. No return call. Also notified them that we would not be staying a second night. Called and notified Priceline as well. We needed to sleep but around 9:30 a band started to play beneath our room. Of course there was no one manning the desk so we left a note and then a voice mail.We Had no choice but to leave and check in to a regular hotel. When we booked there was no disclaimer about a bar/restaurant playing loud music at night. We though we were going to a Bed & Breakfast". ...read more

Nothing
Everything. The pictures online did not reflect the actual state of the room, there was so much dust we couldn't breathe. The carpet looked so bad we didn't even want to take off our shoes. We checked out 3 minutes after we checked in.

The hotel does not look anything like the posted photos. When we got to our room we took one look around as our noses clogged up from the dust and promptly checked out. The carpet was so bad we didn't even want to remove our shoes to walk on it. The guy at the front desk was nice though.

Hotel very conveniently located for our trip needs. Room was quaint, clean and very quiet. We felt safe with the key system to enter the hotel and the elevator.. The breakfasts were very good, nice lady serving the food.
Inconvenient counter space in the bathroom. The pedestal sink had no area to set anything down - tooth brush, shaver, etc.. I would replace it with a built in vanity with a couple of drawers and some shelf space on top... TV is very small, hard to watch

Lovely and interesting CA town with friendly atmosphere. We did not spend any time in the hotel restaurant/bar, but it looked friendly and popular. We were visiting relatives in another town so did not spend a lot of time at the hotel. We did enjoy the lovely stained glass windows in the very pleasant breakfast room. The breakfasts were very good and served by a very pleasant woman.. The area was very quiet. Our room was pleasant and met our needs. ...read more

The location was great.
The hotel was very rundown, and not entirely clean.

While this bed and breakfast was in an ideal location in Downtown Benicia, and the staff was friendly, there weren't any other qualities that made it worth the money. Our room was musty, and not entirely clean. The breakfast was mediocre, and dining room unswept. We don't plan on staying here again.
