The 1.5 million acre recreational area includes Lake Mead, campgrounds, hiking trails and four marinas. It is the 16th largest man-made lake in the Western hemisphere and is created from the flow of the Colorado River through Hoover Dam. 820 miles of shore and beaches make it the perfect place for a day - or week! - of recreation and relaxation. The area gets very little precipitation with August getting the most rain and June being the dryest time of the year. The huge lake is a popular place for boaters, swimmers, fisherman and even scuba divers. If camping isn't your style, there are a wealth of hotels which offer affordable nightly rates.
