Hotel Guest Reviews of the The James Chicago

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The location is fantastic-really suited our needs very well as we could walk everywhere without needing taxis.
There were no mirrors in the bedroom so we had to go to the bathroom each time which was unnecessarily inconvenient.

We would highly recommend staying at The James and will be back here for next time.

The James was in a great location. It was within walking distance to almost every neighborhood you would want to visit in Chicago.

Staying at the James was a great experience. The room was beautiful. There was a reading nook in the room, which was a great bonus. The bed was amazingly comfortable. The bathroom was a great size and organic, gluten free products were offered for use. Also included in the room was a mini fridge, with an array of snacks & drinks. It was a little bit more expensive but it was great to have the option, when most hotels do not anymore. The staff at the James was very hospitable and helpful. The James was so close to every neighborhood and every site that we wanted to see. Some walks were a little longer (about a mile) but it was worth the walk! If you are tired of walking, The James is great about getting cabs and the cab rides to downtown and elsewhere are very reasonable. I would definitely recommend staying at the James and can't wait to go back! ...read more

I have been fortunate to stay here nearly a dozen times. Face recognition of and by the staff makes it pleasant to come back. Never doubt how a friendly and pleasant staff member can make all minor issues evaporate into the air.
Location is on a main artery leading to nearby Expressways. There is no escaping the outside noise from intruding into your room.

While the room is comfortable, there are many signs of wear that need more than a "Band-Aid" approach to fix/correct. As a 4.5 star rated hotel it needs to pick up their game. Still, it is a great location for my business needs and would be great for anyone wanting to shop on NMA.

LOCATION! The Staff are great. All luxury treatment - in a not so luxurious building. Don't let that stop you from staying here - but if you are looking for that $$ feel it is not there.

If you spend $--- +/- bucks a night - it is a deal. It will outshine the likes of several chain hotels in the area - but don't expect the room to be in the Ritz / JW - or Windsor Court class. For a few dollars more than Embassy Suites or run of the mill Sheraton - The James is a good choice. Room is sparse - and if you plan on spending more than sleep time in there - you will probably not be happy. Having said that - boy does the service and staff shine! They are on top of it all! You cannot find a better location if you are playing in Downtown Chicago. In the snow or the heat - this location is king! ...read more

Great part of downtown, within walking distance of many stores, restaurants and even has a Trader Joe's across the street. Very natural harmonious aesthetic to the hotel and guest room decor, environmental sensibility. Free bottle of water refilled daily.
Gluten-free soap... Doesn't hurt, but feels a little overboard the way they stress it.

Possibly the best hotel bed I've ever slept on.

Excellent restaurant attached very quick service.
The lift drain in the bathtub was broken. Not a major issue.
