Hotel Guest Reviews of the The Empire Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The best thing about the Empire is the location -- easy access to Broadway, 5th Avenue, Times Square, Central Park, etc. The lobby is beautiful and the rooms are nice. Drawback: if you go in the summer, the air conditioning system is vintage 1920's.
Only that it was hot -- very inadequate air conditioning system. Otherwise it's great.

The service was exceptional! Upon arrival our standard queen room wasn't ready and gave us a free upgrade to a superior king with complimentary WIFI and champagne.

Staff is very helpful, rooms are big for New York standards as I've stayed in many other places before. Overall great experience!

Location and value

Despite many critical reviews we found the hotel to be of great value.the reviews which mentioned the noise from the club prompted us to ask for a lower floor. So we don't know about the noise on the upper floors. Our room was quite, except for the occasional siren, but it's new York! The accommodations were clean and while the room was small, it was actually larger than other n.y. hotels we have stayed in. All in all we were happy with our stay. ...read more

Location, price for NYC, Service
Wi-Fi not free, and each device needs to be paid for separately. Poor sound insulation. Room very small.

Good choice to be near Lincoln Center.

The location
The. Staff. See below

Shortly after arriving in our room I used the bathroom and toilet water from the tank began spraying all over me and the bathroom. Quickly the TINY bathroom began flooding. I called the front desk and they sent up someone from maintenance. I had already turned off the water to the toilet, but the bathroom was soaked (so was I)! When the maintenance man arrived he showed me the issue, fixed it and then told me to call someone else about the mess...?!?! Really ? After I suggested he call housekeeping and explain the issue he reluctantly agreed. I explained we had dinner reservations and needed new towels ASAP so we could shower. Clearly our towels weren't able to be used as they were soaking up the toilet water... After an hour passed and nobody showed up with towels I called housekeeping. They finally showed 30 minutes after my call... With 2 towels. They took the soaked towels on the floor, but didn't clean up the rest if the water! So we quickly took showers and then used the towels to try and clean up the rest of the water... We were late for dinner and it made our stay poor. I understand that toilets have problems.. I would have been fine if the staff would have been polite and responded quickly... ...read more

close proximity to central park
pool was cold and was closed during our stay due to a private party. bathroom and rooms are small even though we had the junior suite. toilet was clogged too but they were able to fix it. everything was overpriced, even the coffee in the room was billed.

I was not happy at all with the hotel. I will not stay there again.

Great location across from Lincoln Center and near the 1 train. Chowder House has a nice happy hour which extended pretty much through the whole evening on weekdays. Easy to stay here for business in the city.
Room was micro small, mini bar and ammenities ridiculously expensive. ($17 for a toothbrush and travel size tooth paste). No full door on shower was awkward and messy. Towels not replaced two days of the 5 I stayed.

The Empire is an older hotel, which has been updated. The carpets in the rooms could still use replacing again, and the bathroom / shower situation was strange. Doors are only half the shower so the water pours out onto the floor and bathroom door. The door was water damaged, of course. But I was told it was an "architectural feature" Shower was nice with full rain shower head and hand held sprayer. No closet, but a couple of pegs for hanging. ...read more

Location to Lincoln Center and subways. Beautiful common areas and rooms.
Bad view of crappy alley way and side of building next to us.

Great service from staff. Ed's chowder house restaurant was stuffy, annoying and expensive.
