Hotel Guest Reviews of the Shanghai Marriott Hotel City Centre

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Over helpful staff
Food very expensive

2 blocks from Lines #1,#2 & #8 on Metro. 2 Blocks from Huanghe Rd which has good cheap restaurants. McDonald's and Starbucks within one block. Felt very safe walking around in evening.

The staff was exceptional, as were the public spaces. There was a restaurant, bar, and even shopping available within the building.
The room was mediocre for the star rating. Also the location was OK, but a bit off the beaten path and the area was a bit rough.

Overall the hotel was exceptional. I generally try to make my travels as authentic as possible. However, when it comes to service, most Chinese hotels are lacking. We stayed at another 4* Mariott in Shanghai which had terrible service. This place was great, they did everything they could to make us comfortable and when we were in a crunch for time, they even helped us carry our heavy bags to the train station. ...read more

The service was impeccable, happy staff, always willing to help. Great views when there was no smog. We opted for executive upgrade for 500RMB more to get a higher floor, better view and free breakfast buffet. The buffet got old by the third day.
Its a very business first hotel, but most Shanghai hotels are like that so its not really a big deal.

Grand entrance with giant spiral staircase dwarfs many a new york upscale hotel. Lovely lounge and great views, superb service, but all of this comes at New York if not more expensive prices. $20 cocktails are easy to find and don't worry about tipping they do it all for you.

Great views and large windows, plenty of space for Shanghai hotel room.
Public lounge was on the first level which is nice, but no views. Breakfast buffet was cleaned and give long before the 11 AM shut down time.

Great views from rooms and executive lounge, however you need to either buy executive lounge access or be a Mariott member. If you do upgrade and get the free breakfast in the executive lounge, note that they clear it out around ten, not nine and it gets a little old if you stay more than a day or two. On the upside, the people were are all extremely friendly and helpful and the place is well lit and clean. ...read more

It was located right in the center of Shanghai so it was easy to walk to shopping or get on to transit. It was nice to come back to the comforts of what was familiar to us being that we were in a foreign country.

Will highly recommend this hotel. Typically you can categorize hotels in China as (1) hotels for westerners and (2) hotels for Chinese. you can easily figure this is the hotel for the westerners and it highlights cleanness and service. The hotel is conveniently located in the Xizang Rd, only 5 minutes walk to the Nanjing Rd and the subway station for lines 1 and 2, and about 10-15 minutes walk to the People's Square. The room is spacious, equipped with a bathtub and a shower room. The most important thing, it is super clean and real smoking free in the room (unfortunately they do offer a smoking area in the Cafe in the lobby). Most of the staff are courteous and speak english. There is a fitness room and a swimming pool on the 6th floor. I didn't check out the swimming pool, but the fitting room has 6 treadmills, 6 eclipse treadmills and 1 weight lifting center. They also offer towers, bottle water and apples in the fitting room. Overall, excellent experience and i will definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. ...read more
