We love the old stuff so a historic downtown hotel actually excited us. Walking in the hotel did not disappoint...just like we expected it & our room was spacious, high ceilings, well-appointed, & clean. Obviously the entire hotel had gone through a renovation. We felt it was absolutely beautiful...antiques (or fake antiques) & old (or old-looking) furniture everywhere. Perfect! Unfortunately, that's where it all stopped. The room was warm & the thermostat would not go below 70 degrees. We noticed the window was slightly open when we entered so we raised it higher since it was below 40 outside, we were sure we could get it to a comfortable level. We left to have dinner & a few drinks but found the room still warm upon our return. The downtown noise was incredible & we knew we could not get any sleep with the window open so we tried to close it. Window almost fell out of the building! We were able to lower it a bit but it would not fully close. We took off all the sheets & still way too hot. Could not even get close to each other as we would start sweating. Noise would not stop. Trains coming in & out, buses & cars driving by, then the person upstairs obviously had some of his/her own issues hitting the bathroom at least 4 times during the night. Every step loud creaking...back & forth to the bathroom. Felt sorry for whatever that person's problem was...hope we never experience it. Needless to say...we were there over 10 hours & only got 4 intermittent hours of sleep at best. Felt terrible all night & even worse the next morning. Front Desk is not manned all night but you can call and someone will eventually show up. Hotel does not have any parking whatsoever. You can park on the streets or on two paid lots if there are spots. The Montvale Hotel is not 3.5*! We were both consultants for many years & traveled all over and we still enjoy traveling today. We both agreed that it was a 2 star hotel...2.5 star at best. Beautiful to see but stay elsewhere! ...

The Montvale offers very pleasant accommodations . The room was clean and spacious with a very comfortable bed. There is quite a bit of road and train noise but we slept well using our ear plugs. The valet parking was expensive and if more than one person is checking out, it takes a long time to get your car.

I have stayed at many hotels in Spokane. This is not a 3.5 star hotel but rather a 2 star hotel. I understand being historic may give it extra points but to rate it higher than the Marriott is misleading. This is the first time I have been disappointed with Priceline.

Failed to meet the 4-star level hotel I bid on. At best a 2-star level.

No reservation at the hotel. I was the 4th one that had no reservation that same day. I have started telling all my friends about my "Priceline" experience.

Overall, the Montvale is a cool historic hotel. It has a lot of character. I would definitely stay there again, but would want new windows installed or something so it's a lot more quiet. The staff was really friendly. It's in a great spot downtown which makes it really easy to walk around and see the sights. Tip: Look on their website for prices before booking through Priceline. I would have paid about $30/night less if I would have booked directly on the hotel's website rather than through Priceline. ...

Unfortunately the historic charm cannot make up for location close to train track (one block), badly fitted and insulated windows and being on a busy street. Maybe a heavy sleeper would be ok.
