This is a charming old hotel. With a little work on cleanliness and service it could be a great place to stay.

Family Traveling with Young Children
The room had not been cleaned in a long time. Also the noise level by this hotel is insane. There was a whole bunch of guys having a party in the commen room me and my son had to walk by them to get to our room. I had to complain around 12am about loud music being played in the room above our room! This was a disturbing stay since my son needed to be in surgey in the morning it was a big let down because the spot the hotel was in was convenient to where we needed to be in the morning! We will not be staying here again! ...

The Montvale has a lot of charm but is not a place for the traditional traveler. Located in the west side of the downtown area it is close to a lot of music venues, bars and other attractions. It has been meticulously refurbished with a spacious 2nd floor lobby and most of the rooms completely modernized and lavishly appointed with King Sized beds, down pillows and comforters and other comforts. That being said. The hotel lacks any distinct parking for its guests. I was staff offered me the choice of two local, and public, parking lots versus parking on the street with the meters or they would valet my car in a covered and secure facility for an additional $17.50. I chose to valet and asked for my car to be out front at 7:30 the following morning. It was delivered on time and it was nice to have it warmed up and ready to go. If you are planning on a good nights sleep I'd suggest asking for a room on the west or north sides, away from the railroad and the public parking lots. Both of these generate a lot of noise through out the evening. I felt that the staff was eager to please and very agreeable. Even with the extra money for the valet parking I felt this hotel was a value and I would consider staying there again when I visit Spokane. ...

No reservation at the hotel. I was the 4th one that had no reservation that same day. I have started telling all my friends about my "Priceline" experience.

Overall, the Montvale is a cool historic hotel. It has a lot of character. I would definitely stay there again, but would want new windows installed or something so it's a lot more quiet. The staff was really friendly. It's in a great spot downtown which makes it really easy to walk around and see the sights. Tip: Look on their website for prices before booking through Priceline. I would have paid about $30/night less if I would have booked directly on the hotel's website rather than through Priceline. ...

Unfortunately the historic charm cannot make up for location close to train track (one block), badly fitted and insulated windows and being on a busy street. Maybe a heavy sleeper would be ok.
