Hotel Guest Reviews of the Lava Tree Tropic Inn

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The hostess goes out of her way to please and help her guests. The rooms very clean with fresh orchids. Breakfast very healthy with fresh home grown products. I gave her my laundry and she did it within the day (extra charge, which is OK for me)
We were very pleased with the accommodation and service. The unpaved road was a little rough but we drove carefully with our regular car and made it even after strong rain.

The location is unique within this rain forest. There are flowers all over. The hostess and her neighbor were very friendly and when we left after one week we had the impression that we were leaving friends.

Rural setting. Nice well kept estate surrounded by rain forest.
Finding the Lava Tree state park sign at night is difficult. Restaurants and amenities are a few miles distant.

Irene was a great host, very relaxing atmosphere.

The room was beautiful and spacious with lots of closet space. The bed was comfortable and everything was very clean. The owner was very helpful and more than willing to satisfy any requests.
The lock to get in the gate at night was very difficult to read. The numbers were small and blended into the lock, needed good light to see. The road is a little tough and the bottom of the car would scrape on one of the crests of the roadway.

Make sure you have a good light, phones work when you come back at night because the gate is locked with a padlelock with a combination in the bottom. The numbers are the same color as the lock and not easily read. The B&B is very well maintained and the owner is very willing to provide information and suggestions of where to visit. The resturant she recommended in town for dinner was very good. We enjoyed the variety of people at breakfast and hearing their views on Hawaii and their country. Met many people from Europe and enjoyed visiting with them all. A little bit off the beaton path but a great place to stay. ...read more

Irene was warm and welcoming. Each room was unique and charming. The location was majestic, not too far from Hilo but felt like remote jungle.

The Lava Tree in was comfortable and intimate. Irene, the inn keeper, was sweet and considerate, offering insight and extending invitations to local on goings. The early breakfasts were delicious and dining on Irene's back patio surrounded by lush green jungle with the occasional cat purring at your feet or flock of chickens strutting by held exceptional ambiance. The location was about a 15 minute drive from downtown Hilo but felt completely remote. The decor was charming and extremely clean, especially the shared bathroom. The bed and breakfast experience was enhanced by interaction with other guests, but when we were the only guests there, it truly felt like we were at home. ...read more
