Hotel Guest Reviews of the Hotel Swiss Chalet

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

good food and service at the restaurant
old worn out rooms, shared public bath/shower, no A/C. noisy if facing street

Hotel is located about 20 min drive from Lucerne on the beautiful lake. As you arrive, do not expect much of the basic amenities of interior/exterior of the hotel. Forget about lavish rooms, good views, comfortable beds and plush towels - you will get none of it at Swiss Chalet. Expect to stay at the 200yrs old 4 story building with shared bathrooms and showers, squeaking noisy floors and old rooms. You will hear all conversations at the room next door, as walls are zero sound proof. Your room will also have old furniture that deserve to be thrown out to the garbage, worn out carpeting and thin old towels that have been due for replacement few years ago. Also, forget about A/C and TV in a room, as simply does not exist at Swiss Chalet. Hotel staff is very friendly, service and food at the restaurant was very good. Continental breakfast was inspiring. Overall, I was not impressed with hotel itself and its amenities. Rooms definitely need a major facelift/upgrade to satisfy hotel standards of the 21st century. Private bathrooms/showers for each room are a must. Having a fan and old Grinding 10 inch TV does not add a comfort to a vacation stay. I really liked a charm of old medieval decor of the building. Hotel restaurant was very good. Friendly staff was very helpful. ...read more

Antique setting.
Low Ceiling, old, small, central bathroom to entire floor.

Hotel is nice considering it is like a hostel. The ceiling on our floor was not even 6 feet tall and the shared bathroom / shower facilities were small. All things considered it is actually a decent place if you know what you are getting into.

The attitude of the staff at the hotel.

This is only one of several hotels that are operated from a single location. The staff at this particular hotel were not friendly. Evidentally they do not like Americans. We sat down in the restaurant and after 15 minutes waiting while other people, who came in after us, got served I approached the head waiter. He was not very nice. If you do not like sharing a shower and toilet then this is not the place for you. ...read more

The hotel itself, beautiful 400 year old house.
Location is a bit far away from Lucerne center, but beautiful!

This hotel is absolutely gorgeous! Even though they have shared rooms, we enjoyed it very much. Me and my sister stayed there for only one night during November, since it was cold, we had the room to ourselves. We took pictures at every corner because it is absolutely beautiful! Staff is super friendly and the downstairs restaurant is delicious!

The view was simply heavenly and the town perfectly peaceful.
Absolutely nothing to improve.

We were shocked and delighted with our room, the town of Merliscachen and the hotel service and grounds. The former reviews made the place sound like it needed some upgrades but we felt like royalty and the room was spectacular--especially the lake view which could be seen out two of our largest windows. The breakfast was fit for a queen and we could have stayed forever! My only complaint was that we were told that the sauna was open late but it did not stay open past dark. It was a brand new and lovely sauna. Be sure to get off the local train right after "Meghan" because Merlischachen station has no signs at all and there is no visible platform so it doesn't even appear to be a stop. ...read more
