Welcome to the Hotel Leger - Bed And Breakfast
Deep roots in Calaveras County, a historic vibe and ornate furnishings characterize the Hotel Leger Bed and Breakfast.
The 13-room Hotel Leger opened on Main Street in Mokelumne in 1851, making it one of the oldest lodgings in California. The hotel is comprised of three buildings, one of which was originally the county courthouse. All rooms have ornate European furnishings and internet access. Most have private bathrooms. In keeping with the historic ambiance, rooms have no telephones and no televisions. The on-site saloon is a favorite nightspot for dinner and drinks (with frequent live music). During the day, guests relax on wraparound balcony or one of the porches with white wicker furniture.
Hotel Leger is off Highway 49 in the center of this fascinating and well-preserved Gold Rush town. Mokelumne Hill Library is adjacent to the inn. Shopping and dining options surround the hotel. Sacramento is just over an hour away by car, and Sacramento International Airport is 66 miles. Yosemite National Park can be reached in less than two hours.
Priceline guests praise this historic inn's "real character" and "charming, cozy rooms."

If you would like to stay at a place, were the bartender checks you in by handing you a key, no paperwork, ID check, nothing. You have to look at the other rooms for towels because you have none, even though you made your reservations months in advance, they still didn't know you were coming, no AC, no screen on your window, but you can open it, I mean if you would like the bugs to eat you alive all night. You can never find staff, the waitress in the bar is also in charge of the rooms, after 3 days we ran into her, she got us towels, no soap, shampoos or room amenities, just towels. We had to go to the other rooms and bathrooms in the hotel to find that stuff. I understand the old hotel concept, but this place was bad. Also, they brag over and over its haunted. I stayed in the most haunted room in this place for almost a week, nothing. It not haunted its old and falling apart. Our bathroom (which was across the hallway), had a bathtub that took forever to drain, was never cleaned by the staff, had rotten and moldy boards in the ceiling, no hot water in the sink (I turned it on and it leaks everywhere). The first night we had great pillows we took from another room, because there was no one to find to get extras, after the bar closes there is no one in the building, so if you have an emergency or request you are screwed and the bar doesn't open until the afternoon, which gives you at least one person to talk to for service, which you can't get until the waitress gets in at 3 pm. The waitress did apologize for the lack of service, she explained she has three children at home and another job, plus she added the owners don't care about the place what so ever, that's why they have it listed for sale. She also mentioned no one told her we were staying 5 days and they all change our bedding when we leave. No fresh sheets, no towels, no bathroom supplies, dirty pool, dirty hotel, suppose to be smoke free but you can smell the smokers from the bar all night.

It was billed as a bed and breakfast but the restaurant was closed in the morning. I was told by the waitress that they had a continental breakfast on the second floor in the mornings but there was nothing. We left between 9:00 and 10:00 AM and couldn't even find anyone around to complain to. Doubt very much if I ever go back.

A blast from the past. Just right for us. Even had a good live band on the Saturday night that we were there.

Really great hotel with historical charm and elegance. I was fortunate enough to be there on a Thursday evening and had the good pleasure of enjoying the "special" which was one of the best Martinis I have had in a long time. As far as ghost activity...you should really stay here and see for yourself.

We loved the experience. The beds are comfortable and decorated to the period. The resturant was awesome. The saloon was fun with the live band on Saturday night but went till 1:30 AM and sounded like it was in my room. I was disappointed with the breakfast part of the bed and breakfast. Coffee and scones.

We ended up staying elsewhere. This hotel was misrepresented on the Internet. It is not beautiful. It is delapidated, musty, deserted, and unsafe. We saw no other residents there. We were also led to believe that it was close to Murphy's, which it is not. When we got to Murphy's it was clear that everyone knows that the Hotel Ledger is NOT a desirable place to stay. Several people talked about it being haunted! We didn't know about that, but in hindsight, it makes sense. Our weekend ended up being stressful instead of relaxing!! ...

A great place to stay in a beautiful small town. Every room is unique and adds to the Bed and Breakfast experience. The added bonus of Hotel Leger was the Saloon located inside with a great live band.

The owners and staff of the Hotel Leger make you feel welcome and it was a fun place to stay. It has a great bar and restaurant. There is a TV in the bar but not in the rooms. They offer internet service so business travelers can stay in touch. They do not have phones in the rooms but my cell service was excelent (ATT). Overall it was a fun place to stay.....they even have a haunted room! ...
