Hotel Guest Reviews of the Gran Melia Golf Resort Puerto Rico

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The grounds are reasonably maintained and the stretches of quiet beach are great.
Service was generally poor and expect to queue and wait. Towels when cleared from the room were not replaced even when repeatedly asked for. You have to book dinner in advance or risk eating at 10pm. Not apparent what the resort fee covers.

The pool was nice.
Check-in was REALLY SLOW. The room had a moldy/musty smell. Furniture was worn, throw pillows on bed had holes in them.

Long waits for check in/ check out ( 1 hour wait both times), very poor room service and house keeping. Had to make several calls to remind them to clean the rooms and also for room service.

The lobby was beautiful and had everything for the resort feel. The staff were not very friendly or helpful though - not a smile to be seen among them. The guys driving the carts were the exception - they were eager to help and friendly.
The resort is very tired - lumpy, over used bedspreads, weedy landscaping, stained pool steps, non-working pool jets. You can tell it was built as a 5-star resort but is maintained as a 3-star.

Nice pool area. Right on the beach, even if it had a red flag warning, you could enjoy a nice walk and tan a little. Nice place to get away and relax.
Location: There's no nightlife at or near the hotel (boring at night). As for dining, you are constrained to the hotel restaurants, since the nearest option outside the place is almost 15 mins away. Drinks at bars are pricey. Rooms, far from main building

It depends on the purpose of your visit. If you are looking for a place to "retreat", away from the San Juan area and you don't mind limiting your dining options to the hotels restaurants and bars, which could be a little pricey, you might like this hotel. It has a nice pool area, but rooms are a little far from it and the main building (up to almost a mile and golf cart rides are not constant). The hotel is right on the beach, but with a red flag warning because of the currents. There's no nightlife at or near the hotel, just some DJ at the main building's bar, do it could get boring. Overall, I recommend this hotel for a weekend retreat, no more than that. ...read more
