Hotel Guest Reviews of the Frenchmans Reef & Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. It's location and views are great. Waterfall, beach access.
Plenty I didn't like.

the bed was very uncomfortable, my husband and i could not walk the next day. The room service and restaurant have almost the same over priced food. You can see the existent water damage in the ceilings, the closet door rails haven't been changed since 1970's, it smells like mildew as you're walking down the hallway to your room. Be ready to pay more than your nightly stay. Add $45 to your nightly stay for a "resort fee", this fee is for using the umbrellas, lounging chairs, pool etc. They add that at the end, when you check out. They will also try to sell you their time shares, so in the middle of your vacation you have to make time for them (if you want). They also have a "schedule of daily events" that does not happen. You go to the pool for yoga and there is none. They advertise a "latin dj at havana blue" and once you get there, their not even playing latin music nor is it loud or anything. Very disappointing. I highly recommend the snorkeling trip with the turtles aboard "The Cat", it is very nice. Don't waste your time at "Aqua Terra grill" for dinner, breakfast in the same place is $25.99 p/p. ...read more

Lovely property, great restaurants and wonderful spa. Perfect location.
No, not at all

As I said, beautiful property 10 minutes from the ferry terminal, 15 from the airport. Friendly, helpful staff, lovely public spaces, and excellent restaurants and spa. Our room, if a little worn, was absolutely fabulous, with a view over the bay and the hills above (which in the dark, the lights from the homes on it twinkled like stars!)

The scenery was beautiful and the pools were very nice.
Surprise $35.00 daily resort fee. Itinerary said 3pm check in time when in fact it was 4pm. Cockroaches in the hotel room. No shuttle service to and from airport.

Please be sure you have plenty of money to spend at the hotel and everywhere else on the islands and on tips for everyone. Mostly all the staff is very friendly and willing to help. Very beautiful around the grounds and sea. Iguanas will be on the 98 stair path that leads down to the Morning Star beach. This beach is very choppy and the waves knock you down. The beach on the Marriot timeshare side is beautiful and great for snorkeling. No crazy waves there! Just be careful not to step on stingrays buried under the sand or sea urchins. We would come to this hotel again if we were placed in a better room without cockroaches. ...read more

The location is great. Beautiful views, friendly staff. Lots of options of things to do on and off property. Loved convenience of being close to St John and downtown by ferry or water taxi. You could stay weeks and always find something to do.
The rooms in the sea cliff tower need updating- mold on ceiling, cracked tiles, chipped paint. I was disappointed in our room. Also, I did not appreciate the constant push for participation in timeshare seminars.

Fabulous views and very friendly staff. Restaurants are decent but not amazing for price of food at the hotel. However, cost of taxi can be pricey so convenience of restaurant options is nice. Our room included breakfast in our package which helped offset costs. Hotel staff is always willing to offer suggestions on things to do, places to eat, etc. Rooms are decent but I was disappointed in ours- needed serious maintenance in sea cliff tower. Perhaps due to being off season but I expected more from Marriott. The overall hotel is beautiful and common spaces are beautiful! The beach is conveniently accessed by stairs or complimentary shuttle. ...read more

Beautiful pools and beach
No kids club or lifeguards. Information desk thinly veiled timeshare sales pitch. Little to no information regarding the excursions and the people were unfriendly. Basically no concierge. A

Amazing location, beautiful rooms, great beach and pool. Not a lot for younger families.

It was beautiful. The staff/service was excellent. Shawn the bartender at the infinity pool was great!! He makes an excellent drink and keeps the energy high! The breakfast buffet is well worth the expense.
A lot of iguanas on the stairway to the beach. Food and Drinks at CoCo Joes are overpriced.

Room-NOT view paid for. Overcrowded (more cars than parking spaces/pool was packed and loud). Pools-grossly dirty. Hotel was run-down. Service-super slow & staff indifferent & rude. Overpriced food & drink for the value. No warm water in morning. MOLD!

Couldn't take a warm shower in the morning because the hot water didn't come on until after 9 a.m. The pools ran out of clean towels daily. The pool water itself was filthy, and overcrowded and loud (definitely not a relaxing ambiance). Iguanas overran the hotel walkways and patios. Our room had lots of mold on the walls and ceilings. They told us free non-motorized sports for guests, but then charged for everything. Although check in was at 4 p.m., we had to wait in the lobby with a good 50 other guests for our room to be ready at 6 p.m. after 14 hours of travel to get there. Every day we saw the lobby full of newly arrived guests who had to wait to check in for hours past the advertised check-in time. Essentially wasting our first day there. ...read more
