Hotel Guest Reviews of the Fairfield Inn & Suites Carlsbad

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The staff were friendly, the room was spacious and they had more than coffee and pastry for breakfast.
That it was so expensive.

I would recommend the hotel.

The hotel staff was extremely friendly/helpful. Probably one of the nicest I've ever come across! Also, there was great breakfast in the morning, free Wi-fi, and a 24-hour gym. The decor of the hotel was also very pretty.
The room was very small, which was okay for one night, but a longer stay, no. There was also a huge red/brown stain on my side of the sheets, which is not acceptable.

Upon checking in, there was a sign that stated that the hot tub was closed, due to not passing an inspection. (After reading previous reviews for this hotel, I am learning that this has been going on for awile!) For such a 'new' hotel, it has alot of problems and seems like it was built in a hurry.

Location was the best part of this hotel for me. It was close by the caverns and wasn't a motel.
The area doesn't seem great but that seems to be most of Carlsbad. The price was expensive for a Fairfield but I paid the extra amount to have a reputable named hotel.

The bed was very comfortable and the cleaning staff very friendly. The bathroom was big with plenty of counter space. We appreciated fresh fruit at breakfast and the sausage was very good.
There was a lot of road noise in our room, the towels were thin, The front desk staff was not friendly.

The price for the hotel was very expensive for the quality of the room.

Tiny room, traffic noise, stand in line business center (room for 2 but only 1 computer).

Not a good value. OverXXX a night for this location, size of room and amenities is a joke. Clean and safe yes but free breakfast (what tasted like powdered eggs), business center with one lonely computer and main road traffic noise was maddening. This place squeezes you because they are 30 minutes from caverns. I would have preferred a less newer remodeled room for an older yet clean property at half the price. ...read more

Window in the room was very poor quality and seemed like it was open. The A/C was very loud and was leaking water. We could not move to another room due to no vacancy and we could not cancel due to Priceline's non refundable price.

There is an oil boom in Carlsbad and the room prices are hugely inflated. This hotel should be no more than
xxx a night, we paid xxx. Our room was on the east side of the hotel and highway 285 seemed to turn into a raceway at night. We got terrible sleep due to the noise outside, and the noisy air conditioner inside was just as bad. Make sure you book a room on the west side of the building and you should get a good nights rest. The pool is way smaller than the picture, the capacity is only 13 people. I have stayed at Fairfield Inn in Phoenix and this one was a huge disappointment. I would have cancelled and went to another hotel right off the bat if I could have, but our price was non-refundable. ...read more

The location. That's the absolute only thing.
Many things. The rooms facing the front get a lot of road noise that's audible even with the air conditioning running on high. The pool is very, very small and the staff is apathetic at best, virtually no customer service.

Our problems began at check-in. The room was not ready at 5:30 pm (check in is at 3) and the clerk at the desk did not apologize and did not remember to tell us when it was finally ready at almost 6 pm. He also claimed my credit card was declined. It was not, my bank has a $40 charge for incidentals on record, even though he claimed it would only be for $1. I had to give a second card, which also was charged $40. When I confronted the clerk with the bank website later that evening, he did not apologize and was not even sure how to fix his mistake. The next day, we left the room by 9 am, returned at 3:30 pm and our room had still not been cleaned. The housekeeper was in the room next door and said she would get to it, "when I get there." We went downstairs to the lobby to wait. After waiting over an hour, my daughter had to use the restroom and the housekeeper had just started on our bathroom. The lobby restroom was out of order. I asked at the front desk if there was an additional restroom that she could use since our room was being cleaned. The clerk glanced up from counting money for a brief second and said, "The only bathroom is over there." I explained that it was out of order and we needed another one. She said, "It is? Oh," and she promptly looked back down without another word. I again said, "Since it's out of order, do you have any other suggestions?" Her reply: "No, I already told you that's the only one." Wow, thanks for your efforts. Our room was FINALLY done at 5:30 pm, a whopping TWO HOURS after she began cleaning it. Regardless of who was at the front desk, no one ever greeted guests going by, made any efforts to acknowledge inconveniences or did anything to rectify issues that were brought up. It truly was the worst customer service I have ever experienced in a major chain hotel. I wish we'd stayed at a local hotel, especially since the chains are using the oil boom as an excuse to raise prices to sky high for a dinky room. ...read more

The decor was clean and fresh. The ceilings were high and everything was very clean.
My only complaint is that at the heart of the breakfast rush we couldn't find a table and had to sit in the lobby. This is a very minor complaint. We would definitely stay at this hotel again!
