Hotel Guest Reviews of the Copthorne Effingham Gatwick Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The sheets on the bed were of poor quality and the room was run down.

The hotel room I received for this stay was run down. The furniture in the room was old and wobbly time for a renovation. Also their shuttle in comparison to other hotels in the Gatwick airport area does not run 24 hours.

People at the front desk were helpful.
Our room had a musty smell.

The rooms in the hotel need updating urgently. We found the room had a musty smell which did clear up once we left the window open for a couple of hours. However, there are no screens on the window, so we had some insects in the room. The hotel is not convenient to any local restaurants if you are not driving your own car. We found the food available in the hotel was overpriced and not very good. Eat anywhere else you can. I could not recommend this hotel ...read more

Peaceful, pastoral setting , friendly staff, nice rooms, convenient shuttle.
A little far from the city. A direct shuttle into London would be awesome.

It more than met our needs, the room size was good and everything felt clean. We especially liked the friendliness of the staff and walking around the grounds was especially enjoyable.

bus to airport
not the hotel Priceline said I won

We arrived at the hotel listed on our PriceLine bidding sheet, unloaded all our bags, made it to the lobby, and were told that we were not at the correct hotel. Even though we were told the address on the PriceLine sheet was correct. We had to reload our bags and travel two miles away to this "sister" hotel of the original where we had to pay for parking. No explanation was given. Front desk was not helpful. ...read more

it just an upgraded motel not a four star

hotel looks more like a country bed and breakfast, it is in no way a four star. Although the concierge/front desk person was really great in terms of assistance; i felt that this hotel needs to be rated much lower. It is old, it is kept clean and well maintained but one can see, that the luster has been long gone, internet did not work, IT SHOULD STATE THAT IT IS VERY REMOTE EVEN FOR A NEAR AIRPORT LOCATION , NOT WORTH THE MONEY ...read more

The staff was friendly and accommodating, and the food was excellent.
There was a boxing match at the conference centre, and some guests were loud and rude in the lobby.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. I wish I could have stayed longer than the one night. The grounds and facilities looked beautiful, and the room was very comfortable. I especially appreciated the soft fluffy towels and the cozy bed. I found the staff to be very kind, both at the reception and in the restaurant. The dinner I had (lentil Wellington) was very rich and delicious, and the waiter was attentive. I was looking forward to breakfast the next morning, but unfortunately I had to leave for the airport early. The staff was kind enough to get me a cup of coffee and some toast before I left, though. I hope to return to this hotel with my husband some time in the future. It would be nice to spend more time exploring the grounds and playing a round or two of golf. ...read more
