Hotel Guest Reviews of the Congress Plaza Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Location! Right across from Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park with easy crossing to Lakefront Trail. Red and Brown lines a couple of blocks away. 12 minutes to Union Station. Also like the character and old architecture. Room was perfectly fine.
Could have used a mini frig and a microwave. Step up to the bathroom was hard to get used (more on the way down). Climate control was a bit funky (looks like central building air but no thermostat control). Might be leery if it was reall a hot summer day.

For the price and location, outstanding. Staff was fine. Room was really quiet at night. 564, North Wing facing south. Hotel has a lot of history having been built in 1893 for the Chicago World's Fair. Some of the lobby and hallway architecture is still preserved. Great transportation to just about anywhere. Not far from the Adler Planetarium and Art Institute. Really a great location. Bar and restaurant in the lobby as well. Close to a Panera, CVS, 7-11, Starbucks, Subway, Panda Express, and a decent liquor store. store. ...read more

The hotel was not similar to the level of hotels your website used as examples. Your site reads "These hotels include high quality independent hotels, plus brands similar to: Holiday Inn Express, Best Western..." This was not at all similar and very bad!

This Hotel is worn out and choppy. The room did not have separate A/C and the HVAC is controlled by a facility wide system. Warm air blew into the room though it needed cool air. The shower water ran cool to cold only. Immediately after the hotel was booked thru Priceline.com, I called the hotel regarding parking. They Concierge told me the self park was $39 for a day and the valet (of the hotel in the same lot) was $44 per day. It was already almost 3pm when I booked and I asked specifically how long my parking would be good for as I would arrive close to 6pm. He said it would depend on when we arrived. I then told him it would be for a total of about 23 hours as we would be leaving by 5pm the next day. He said that would be covered. We arrived a few minutes after 6pm and had to bee somewhere fast so we used the valet service. We later learned the valet service required us to leave by 2pm the next day or pay a fee of $14 for the next day. We were running late so had no choice. The next day when we wanted to leave, they called for the car and it took 2 calls and almost 25 minutes for our car to come out of the garage adjacent the hotel. The Valet then notified us the charge was $16 and that the form that said $14 was old. We had to pay the $16 to get our car (though now again late) so we could get to our next destination. We have used Priceline several times in the past, as recently as 3 weeks earlier in Florida and the experience was great and we got exactly what was represented. This is not the level hotel Priceline promised and the staff did a very poor/deceptive job. Will not go back to this hotel and may not be able to use Priceline again. ...read more

Price location
Calling this hotel dated is an understatement. Old and smelly. Probably the worst Priceline hotel I have ever stayed at. You get what you pay for.

The location was great and the room was very large for an older building.

I liked the old-world character that this hotel had and it's historical significance
It needs to be renovated in the worst way

Though the location is great, it is way over-priced considering how dumpy the actual rooms are

Steve the door man! Amazing guy! Front desk was awesome as well! Location was great for the price as well. I will definately be back.
Resturants were not open and I am not sure why, the place appeared to be full. We just ate at the other one, so all was good! Plus.........lots of good eats in the area.

The staff was amazing! Steve and George (at the front door) were amazing! Friendly and fast! Used valet parking and they were on top of their game at all times, IMPRESSIVE!! And did I say that Steve was amazingly friendly and funny? The location of this hotel was great, easy access to everything one would need in Chicago. The building is in a bit of disrepair and that is sad, such a beautiful place. Just a bit of cleaning and repair would do the trick! Smelled of pot in the common areas so that was a bit odd, but you can't control everyone. Overall I loved this place and the staff and will always use them when I come to Chicago! The room was nice and you cant beat the view! I was on the 12th floor lake side, and it was amazing to say the least. HUGE bathroom with an exhaust fan......no fogged up mirrors folks! Furnishings were nice, and the bed very comfortable! Best--- dollars I spent the whole time I was in Chicago! Once again, hats off to the staff! ...read more
