This hotel was great and the staff ( Grace Caputo and Betty Ann) was helpful with directions around the area and very personable. I will stay there again if in the area.

I was very pleasantly surprised by the Colt's Neck Inn. It's truly a beautiful old building, but the room was clean, modern, and very spacious. The staff was exceedingly friendly and the place was nice and quiet. The only drawback for some people is that it's about 5 miles from an area with much selection of food and drink. But that's a niggling complaint. I got my money's worth. ...

Overall, I liked this hotel and would return. The well water was just fine. There was no noticeable smell as other reviewers had complained. They even provided a free bottle of water in the room.It was nicely furnished and looked freshly painted. It was attractive and comfortable. It was different than the typical chain hotels and had a warm feeling and was decorated with antiques in the lobby and lounge areas. I was lucky it was a weekday with few people and was very quiet. Some minor complaints was that the carpet in my room seriously needed a shampoo. It was a relatively new and attractive carpet, but it looked like people had tracked a lot of dirt into the room. Also, the down comforter was totally flattened! It was basically two flat sheets with the down clumped into the corner of each quilt square. No loft at all. Fortunately, it was a warm late spring evening, so I didn't really need it. The room had cable TV, a fridge and a microwave.

It had potential to be really special, but looked like no one cared. Staff was helpful. Breakfast room had no tables and chairs for proper eating. Had couches and bowls set on a baby grand piano with bagels & cream cheese.

I would not recommend this hotel. The lobby was dirty and had an unpleasant smell. The carpets and walls were soiled. The rooms had lights that were not working. There were window air conditioners in the rooms, but there was no attempt to have these turned on in anticipation of a guest arrival. It took hours to finally cool the room below 80 degrees. That was only after I cleaned the fetid air conditioner filter. Overall a poor choice for the money. ...

Colts Neck Inn is really just not good enough. The biggest problem we encountered was that the emergency exit was broken, resulting in a very unsafe situation which wasn't remedied during the course of the stay. Also, the inn is quite musty. A votive candle is provided, showing that the inn knows about this problem but isn't willing to do what is necessary to address the problem. The bathroom is adequate, but there are pretty substantial signs of age and damage, including cigarette burns on the counter top (of our non-smoking room) and badly pitted chrome on the fixtures. Water is local spring water, which has an unpleasant odor and taste. Two half-pints of bottled water are provided in recognition of this problem. The beds are just okay. Comfortable enough, but not up to reasonable standards. The wireless Internet service requires the loading of additional software onto your computer, which is not possible for corporate-managed equipment. The Continental breakfast marginally better than the rest of the other amenities, including fresh bagels and cream cheese, great tasting donuts, and muffins. However, the coffee was practically undrinkable. ...

Family Traveling with Teens
I was traveling with my 19 year old son and 70 year old mother. We were all very happy with the accomodations and the frienliness of the staff

The Colts Neck Inn Hotel was nice. My room
had a fairly strong odor of stale smoke and mildew.
The biggest problem was the lack of light in the room. There were only a couple of small, low-wattage lamps in the body of the room. Since my room was in a protected corner of the hotel, there was no direct light in the windows at any time of day, and the room was extremely dim all the time. The hotel staff varied from fairly friendly and helpful to...well, somewhat less than friendly. (I live in the South, so I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt -- New Jersey is not a state known for its friendly residents). The lobby was beautiful and there were fresh Macintosh apples on the desk, which I greatly appreciated. ...

It was very easy to find, and walking into the lobby was like stepping back in time. With cherry wood floors and beautiful soft sofas. The room itself was just as pretty. The bed was made up in really rich colors and I was pleased with the hypoallergenic down comforter. An extra plus was the free wireless internet connection.
