The above did not affect me specifically as I wasn't interested in swimming, etc. Nice for those with dogs to be able to relax with them. Check in staff seemed disinterested in what they were doing but performed their job ok.

We stayed here for one night on our way to the easy coast. It was the only hotel close to three stars that had rooms available, so we chose it. The lobby does have the pool, so that was strange. It was almost like the pool was enclosed there, then they decided they wanted a bigger lobby but the pool room was in the way, so they just tore down the walls and put carpet around the pool. Anyway, we didn't use the pool. The rooms are nice, but there were obvious signs of being out-dated, like a rusty air duct in the shower and ugly carpeting and peeling wallpaper. However, I predict it was nicer than if we had stayed in a 2-star hotel or worse. Overall, it was an adequate place to stay, and I never felt unsafe. Also!! Breakfast ends at 10 (whaaat) so make sure you are down there before then if you were planning on taking advantage of the free breakfast. ...

4 out of ten, or a one star. I think it may have been under new management. There was hardly anyone in the hotel.

The hotel was fine for a stopover visit. The swimming pool is right in the middle of a pretty barn-like hotel, with very little visual barriers at all, including only a small handful of fairly small potted plants to the rooms - not terribly inviting. It feels like a industrial hotel from the early 80's. The room itself was quite quiet and the breakfast included bacon and sausages, scrambled eggs as well as more continental items - so overall, it was OK. ...

The Clarion in Gillette is a last resort. Stay anywhere else if you can. When my husband and I arrived, we walked into the dingy "lobby" (which is really just a large room with a big pool), and were struck with a very strong chlorine smell. We were received our room keys and headed up stairs. The elevator barely worked, and the entire time we were in it we were afraid it was going to collapse. (Not really, but you get the idea.) We walked into a room with a very strong cigarette smell. We went down and asked to be moved to another room. The young lady at the desk was very helpful (I wish I could remember her name, but I'm afraid I can't), and moved us to the only room available which happened to be the honeymoon suite. It was decorated horribly with the wall paper falling off the walls, creaky floors, and some sticky substance in the giant bathtub in the middle of the room that I refused to touch. I wanted to charge my cell phone, but there weren't enough plugs next to the bed, so I had to unplug the overhead lights to charge my phone. The TVs were very low quality, and I and my husband (who happens to be a former professional handyman) were unable to figure out the AC for the life of us. We were very happy to leave when we did. Don't stay here. Fork up the extra money if you have to so you can stay somewhere else, but don't stay here. ...

This hotel has a lot of potential. The staff and maintenance folks are very nice and helpful. When we checked in, we were told that a high school reunion was being held in the hotel that night and a live band was scheduled to play. I was very concerned about the noise level, but we were given a room away from the "party" area and we never even heard the band or any noise. When we checked into our room, the commode was clogged in the bathroom and wouldn't flush. When we reported it, a maintenance man came right away and fixed it. I had high hopes for the hotel and it does have a lot of potential. A little TLC and maintenance would do wonders for this hotel. Bleach and some elbow grease would be a good start. There's a restaurant and coffee shop on-site. We didn't eat at the restaurant because I was so put-off by the grungy-ness of the hotel. The coffee shop was closed when we arrived and when we left. I must say that I would not stay at this hotel again unless it was cleaned up. ...
