Hotel Guest Reviews of the City Suites Hotel

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

Loved the location. Price was right on point. Room was spacious. Very affordable snack bar in the room with honor system. Shower was plenty hot. Bed was comfy.
Had steam heat that was not being maintained properly, so air in the pipes created overpowering loud banging noises, woke us up both nights. Sounded like someone was literally banging on the pipes. Also, hotel was right next to an EL station. No view.

Location was very good. Only half a block from the train and easy to get to downtown or the airport. Great French bakery and lots of other restaurants nearby.
Rooms can be loud due to location. We stayed on the second floor and you get all the street noise and no view. The old radiators can also be loud so take earplugs if you are a light sleeper

Great old world charm. Spacious rooms. Ours was a suite with 2 beds and a couch in a separate sitting room. Both areas had ceiling fans and a tv. Room even had a small fridge which was nice. Lobby has coffe or tea available all day.

Location to dining and transportation
Our room faced Elevated train stop. Somewhat noisy. Elevator was too small - only one person can ride when taking luggage cart up or down.

Staff was friendly and extremely accommodating. Breakfast pastry selections were delicious!

Short walk to Wrigley Field. Lots of reataurants & shops.
Right next to the red line, so woke up to the speaker announcing the train stop every 10 minutes when the train arrived. Also water cooler in window was very loud.

The location to both the L and to the Halstead strip/Boystown, as well as the cleanliness and quaint feeling of the hotel.
You could hear the red line at the L station all night.

I love staying at the City Suites because we used to live in Lakeview and it is right in the neighborhood.
The only bad thing (which is also a good thing for using the el) is that it is right by the el, which at night can be a bummer, if you're not used to the noise. Bring some earplugs and you're good to go!

City Suites is perfect for someone who like to stay in a neighborhood of Chicago that is not in the more touristy downtown (N. Michigan Ave or Millenium Park) area. It is right by the Belmont el stop, so you can be downtown easily. You are also right by the Clark Street bus line. There are many restaurants and shops nearby. The hotel has a simple continental breakfast available. The common area is nice--good seating with tables/chairs and some comfy chairs for eating and using a laptop/reading/etc. If you need to park your car, their is garage parking around the corner, for a much cheaper rate than if you were in a downtown hotel. (We just parked on the street, but that takes some driving around and making sure you're not in a residential zone.) We have stayed here as a couple, but have also stayed here with our two children. If you like an authentic, neighborhood Chicago experience, this is a great hotel and location! ...read more
