Hotel Guest Reviews of the Chestnut Tree Inn Portland

Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.

The staff were friendly and the room we were in had limited noise (even though it was on a major street and next to the freeway).
The bed literally had a dip in it which caused back issues for my husband. One of the lamps was missing its shade and the towels were all stained from previous users.

This motel is a one-star motel at best. Even though there were some shady characters around, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The "continental breakfast" was a couple of packets of oatmeal, some packaged pastries, and coffee, so be prepared to go elsewhere for breakfast. There are lots of places close by, so it's not a big deal. Our keys kept getting de-magnetized, which was a pain, but, like I mentioned before, the staff were very nice. They do have hair dryers that you can check out (but they don't all work). The have a washer and dryer (the dryer doesn't work very well either) and vending machine that are open 24/7. Parking is free and there is plenty of it. The room was older, but very clean. The bed was horrible. There was an actual dip in the mattress which caused back issues. The lamp shade was missing from one of the lamps, which added to the seediness of the place. The TV didn't have a clear picture and kept going off randomly. The towels were older and all of them were stained from previous users. I tried not to think about it. :) There was hot water, but you had to let the sink/shower run for 5-10 minutes in order for it to get hot. Coming from California where we're dealing with a water crisis, that made me sad. Also the water kept going from hot to cold during showers. Even though the motel was on a main street, our room was very quiet. We hardly heard any of the other guests or the outside traffic. The air conditioner/heater worked well too. If they had nicer beds, I wouldn't mind recommending this motel as a less expensive alternative; but, the bed really ruined the experience. ...read more

This hotel did not meet my expectations. The room was dingy, the fridge was completely frosted over, the bathroom grimy. There was no clock and outlets were available, but highly inconvenient. (Multiple were broken...) Internet was spotty at best.

Check in person was pleasant
Room smelled like smoke. Patrons of hotel seemed a little questionable. I wondered if rooms were given to homeless for the hotel's charitable contributions.

The breakfast was packaged muffins and Danish which is good for sanitary purposes, but not fat content.

The air conditioner functioned and the bathroom was in working order.
Though labelled "non-smoking," the room itself wreaked heavily of tobacco. The furniture had cigarette burns, the bedding was filthy, and we were not permitted to check in until 2 hours past the posted time.

Location is great, easy on/off of 205. Bed was comfortable. Plenty of hot water.
No clock, radio or coffee pot in the room.

It was better than expected for the price. Room was large and clean - looks like they have been remodeling the rooms as bathroom fixtures were new in the two rooms we rented. .

It had a door and a bed.
The door to the outside didn't have a second security lock.

It was pretty spacious for two people, so it was comfortable.
The televisions were a little old and we could barely hear them at max volume. Also, the lady at the front desk seems to "lose" peoples ID cards and credit cards. She'll claim to have returned it, but she never handed them back, it took a bit to get it.

I wouldn't stay here again. Although it was spacious for me and the significant other and we were never bothered by other guests, the staff is questionable.
