Hotel Guest Reviews of the 40 Berkeley Hostel
Our hotel ratings and reviews are from real hotel guests. Priceline.com ensures that its reviews are guests-only by proactively sending hotel surveys to customers after they've completed their hotel stays. In the post-stay surveys, priceline.com hotel customers are asked a number of questions about their stay and the hotel. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, the survey asks guests to rate their overall experience and specifically rate the hotel's cleanliness, staff and location. Priceline.com does not allow site visitors to post unsolicited hotel reviews.January 11, 2013

The place was quite difficult to find but once you are there it is easy to go to the historic areas in Boston. There was a 7-11 near the hotel which was very helpful. This was the lowest-rate-hotel I was able to find in Boston. But compared the hotels we stayed in Phil and DC. It was still pricy.

You get what you pay for. We needed a room to sleep for 3 nights and that's what we got. Bonus for my husband was the all you can eat cafeteria style breakfast. Shared bathroom was a bathroom shared by the entire floor. Kinda reminded me of a high school gym bathroom but again you get what you pay for. We do plan on staying again next year. All we needed was a bed from 10:30 pm to 8:00 am.. Bed was a little too soft but it was the cheapest in town. ...

This is a hostel style accommodation, which translates to very basic rooms with dormitory style shared bathrooms. The location is very good for the price. The staff was friendly and helpful. There were several large rooms with comfortable seating to hang out or read or get online. There was also a movie room, which we did not take advantage of, as well as a dining area. Overall, we had a very good experience at this accommodation. ...

I thought for a hostel, it was in a super great location, run like a college dorm with shared bathrooms on each floor. The walls are pretty thin, so you can hear everything going on around you as well as outside. There's college style/buffet breakfast and dinner which is pretty neat. It's unlimited during dining hours. There's no TV or fridge or microwaves in any of the rooms. There's also no AC, I don't think as they had fans in every room, very European styled hostel. ...

This hotel was actually a hostel with one bathroom on each level with limited amenities. The elevator was tortuously slow and the rooms were pretty small - you couldn't sit at the desk when someone wanted to open the door. The breakfast was good for cafeteria style food, but overall this place was ridiculously overpriced for what you got.

It's a decent hostel. You can't beat the free breakfast and overall the location.

It's a hostel, so you get what you pay for I suppose. Depending on the room, it may only have one "double" bed, so you should be prepared to be cozy with any fellow travelers. There is no AC in the rooms, just ceiling fans and windows with relatively small openings. If you know it is going to be muggy out and can't handle sleeping in that atmosphere you might want to think twice. All in all it is a good deal for the price and the facility has some entertaining features if you have the chance to take advantage of them. ...
